LPG Cylinder Price Cut: Commercial Rates Slashed By 183.50 Rupees From July 1

Oil marketing companies have reduced the price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders by 183.50 rupees. This move provides relief to the hospitality sector, while domestic cylinder prices remain unchanged at 942 rupees.

50 rupees. This decision is expected to benefit a wide range of stakeholders, including restaurants, dhabas, hotels, and various individuals associated with the food and beverage industry. The new prices for commercial LPG cylinders have come into effect starting today, July 1, 2026. This reduction comes as a major breather for commercial establishments that have been grappling with high operational costs over the past few months.

New Prices for Commercial Cylinders

Following this latest price cut, the cost of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has now been set at 2930 rupees. 50 rupees. 50 rupees is seen as a corrective measure after a series of price hikes earlier this year. However, it's important to note that oil marketing companies have not extended this relief to domestic consumers, while 2 kg LPG cylinder used in households remains unchanged and continues to be stable at 942 rupees.

Geopolitical Context and Energy Crisis

The fluctuations in LPG prices are closely linked to global geopolitical developments, while on February 28 of this year, attacks carried out by the United States and Israel on Iran triggered a severe energy crisis worldwide. Following these attacks, Iran took the drastic step of halting the movement of ships carrying crude oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz, which is under its control. This disruption in the supply chain led to a massive surge in the prices of petrol, diesel, and gas across the globe, including in India.

History of Price Hikes

The disruption of energy supplies from the Strait of Hormuz forced oil marketing companies in India to increase the prices of commercial LPG cylinders four times in the recent past. 50 rupees in April, and a massive 993 rupees in May. This was followed by another increase of 42 rupees in June. 50 rupees over these four instances. 50 rupees is the first major downward revision after that period of intense inflation.

Impact on Domestic LPG Prices

2 kg LPG cylinders also witnessed price increases on two occasions, totaling 89 rupees. Oil marketing companies first increased the price of domestic cylinders by 60 rupees in March. This was followed by another hike of 29 rupees in June. Despite the current cut in commercial rates, domestic users will still have to pay 942 rupees per cylinder as no reduction was announced for the household category in this latest update.
