President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday officially appointed N, while rangasamy as the Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Puducherry. According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the President expressed pleasure in appointing N. Rangasamy to the post, with the appointment becoming effective from the date of his swearing-in. Following the issuance of this notification, Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan has formally invited Rangasamy to form the government, as per official sources.

Sources have indicated that N. Rangasamy is scheduled to take the oath of office as Chief Minister on May 13. This development follows the assembly elections held in the Union Territory on April 9. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the All India NR Congress (AINRC), secured a decisive victory in these polls, paving the way for Rangasamy to assume the Chief Ministerial office for the fifth time.

The results of the Puducherry Assembly elections were declared on May 4. The All India NR Congress contested 16 seats and emerged victorious in 12 of them. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contested 10 seats and managed to win 4. Other constituents of the NDA, including the AIADMK and the Latchiya Jananayaga Katchi, secured one seat each, bringing the alliance's total strength to a comfortable majority in the house.
Assembly Composition and Opposition Performance
In the 30-member elected assembly of Puducherry, the NDA's total seat count stands at 18. On top of that, the house will include three nominated members, who are appointed by the Central Government. On the opposition side, the DMK won 5 seats, while the Congress party secured only 1 seat. The newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) also made its mark by winning 2 seats in the assembly elections.
Political Profile of N. Rangasamy
N. Rangasamy, a lawyer by profession known for his calm and gentle demeanor, has previously served as the Chief Minister of Puducherry four times. Before founding his own political outfit, he was a senior member of the Congress party, while however, due to internal party conflicts, he resigned from his post in 2008. On February 7, 2011, he established the All India NR Congress and led it to victory in the 2011 assembly elections. He holds the distinction of being the first individual in Puducherry's history to form his own party and successfully become the Chief Minister.
Puducherry has a total of 33 assembly seats. Out of these, 30 MLAs are chosen through direct elections, while the remaining three are nominated by the Central Government. This upcoming term marks a significant milestone in Rangasamy's long-standing political career as he prepares to lead the Union Territory once again.
