Delhi: BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari and Bengal Police have clashed over the miscreants setting the BJP office in Howrah on fire after Friday prayers in protest against Nupur Sharma's statement. Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Shubhendu Adhikari, was stopped from going to Howrah and he challenged the police. Shubhendu Adhikari has said that he will fight a legal battle against the police. Section 144 has been imposed in Howrah after the violence.

A letter was issued from Kanthi police station in Shubhendu Adhikari's home town saying that he has been stopped from coming to Howrah as the administration is concerned about his safety. At the same time, the officer said before leaving for Howrah from Kanthi, our party office in Howrah was attacked and I will go there. I will not violate Section 144 and will go alone. If the police stop then I will go to court the next day.

Sukanta Majumdar was arrested

The official said, going to a distressed area cannot be stopped like this. Let us inform that earlier in the state BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar was also trying to go to Howrah but he was arrested on the way. BJP leader Amit Malviya tweeted, "First Mamata Banerjee took Sukant Majumdar into custody and now Leader of Opposition Shubhendu is stopping Adhikari from going to Howrah. Their entire focus is on the opposition and not on milch cows.

To this, TMC's Kunal Ghosh said that the officials wanted to go to Howrah so that they could escalate the crisis. He said, 'What is the need to go to those areas where Section 144 is imposed. He just wants to aggravate the problem. BJP is spoiling the peaceful environment of the state
