BRICS Summit 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met and held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Africa during the BRICS summit. During this, he raised the issue of Line of Actual Control (LAC). The leaders of both the countries discussed with each other to reduce the tension on LAC. India's Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra told that PM Modi also talked to Xi Jinping along with other leaders at the BRICS conference. The Prime Minister in that conversation with President Xi Jinping highlighted India's concerns over the unresolved issues along the LAC in the western sector of the India-China border areas. The Prime Minister interacted with other BRICS leaders. The Prime Minister underlined that maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas and respecting the LAC is essential for normalizing India-China relations.

Subsequently in this regard, the two leaders agreed to instruct their respective authorities to intensify efforts for early disengagement and de-escalation. In such a situation, it is expected that on the basis of this conversation between India and China, the efforts for the early withdrawal of troops from the Ladakh region will intensify. An agreement has been reached on the withdrawal of troops in both the countries. Let us inform that since the year 2020, the relations between India and China deteriorated when China committed violence with Indian soldiers in Galvan Valley in June 2020.

In this skirmish, 20 Indian soldiers were martyred and more than 40 Chinese soldiers were also killed. After this, in the year 2022, there was a violent clash between the soldiers of India and China in Tawang. But during this time no soldier was killed from any country. Since then, 19 rounds of military-level talks have taken place in both the countries. But till now peace could not be restored on LAC. Now after the meeting of PM Modi and Xi Jinping, a claim is being made to speed up the withdrawal of troops from the disputed areas. This is good news for both the countries.

Iran and Saudi Arabia also became BRICS members due to the efforts of PM Modi

With PM Modi's effort, Iran and Saudi Arabia have joined the six countries that have been invited on Thursday to join the BRICS bloc of developing economies. The United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Egypt and Ethiopia are also set to join the bloc from 2024. The announcement was made at the BRICS summit in Johannesburg by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, whose country is the current BRICS Chair. BRICS is currently made up of the emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Those five members agreed to expand the bloc at this week's summit. This is the second time that BRICS has decided to expand. The bloc was formed in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India and China. South Africa was added in 2010. The BRICS bloc represents about 40% of the world's population and contributes more than a quarter to global GDP.
