Rahul Gandhi Demands Dharmendra Pradhan Resignation and PM Modi Apology Over Paper Leaks

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a scathing attack on the central government regarding the persistent issue of paper leaks and the recent police action against protesting students in the national capital. Speaking at a press conference held at Indira Bhavan in Delhi on Wednesday, Gandhi stood firmly in support of the student community, asserting that their future is being compromised by the current administration's failures. During the briefing, he presented three non-negotiable demands to the government, emphasizing that there would be no compromise on these points as they concern the welfare of millions of students across the country.

The Three Core Demands

Rahul Gandhi articulated his demands clearly, placing the accountability directly on the highest levels of the government, while his first demand is the immediate resignation of the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan. Gandhi labeled the minister as a failure, stating that the recurring paper leaks under his watch have destroyed the credibility of the national examination system. He noted that this isn't just his demand but also the primary demand of the students who have been protesting on the streets.

The second demand involves a formal and comprehensive discussion in the Lok Sabha regarding the paper leak crisis. Gandhi argued that this is a matter of national interest and that the government must be held accountable on the floor of the House. He expressed concern that the future of students is hanging in the balance and that the Parliament must address this systemic failure urgently. His third demand is for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally apologize for the brutal treatment of students by the police. Gandhi insisted that the Prime Minister must take responsibility for the barbaric behavior exhibited towards the youth who were merely demanding justice.

Evidence of Brutality and Systemic Failure

During the media interaction, Rahul Gandhi showed a video clip of the lathi-charge that took place during recent student protests in Delhi. He condemned the violence, stating that students are the future of the nation and such treatment is absolutely unacceptable. He painted a grim picture of the country's education system, describing it as being in a state of total disarray. According to Gandhi, the frequent paper leaks have caused immense distress not only to the students but also to their families, who invest their life savings and hopes into these competitive exams.

Gandhi also shared details of his meeting with the Lok Sabha Speaker. He mentioned that the opposition had requested a dedicated discussion on the paper leak issue, while however, the Speaker informed them that he would get back to them after consulting with the government. Gandhi reiterated that the opposition is fully committed to the students' cause and won't back down until their demands are met.

Personal Encounter with Law Enforcement

Addressing questions about the protests held outside the Prime Minister's residence on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi recounted his personal experience of being detained. He described how he was dragged and forced into a police van. Interestingly, he shared a conversation he had with the police officers who were removing him from the protest site. He claimed that the officers themselves expressed dissatisfaction with the current government. One officer from Haryana and another from Rajasthan allegedly whispered to him that this government needs to be removed, though they were bound by orders from their superiors to carry out the detention.

Gandhi dismissed any personal injury or the government's allegations against him as secondary issues. He mentioned that although he was bleeding from the mouth during the incident and Jitendra Singh had come to speak with him, those details weren't the priority. For him, the central issue remains the plight of the students, while he emphasized that when the students of India are on the streets fighting for their rights, the opposition must also be on the streets alongside them.

A Decade of Educational Crisis

The Congress leader provided startling statistics to highlight the scale of the problem. He claimed that in the last 10 years, there have been 152 paper leaks across the country. 5 crore families, leaving them in a state of uncertainty and despair. Gandhi criticized the government for failing to punish those responsible for ruining the education system, while he pointed out that despite the massive scale of these leaks, no significant action or punishment has been meted out to the perpetrators. He concluded by stating that the government has effectively destroyed all employment opportunities for the youth, and the recurring leaks in government job exams are a testament to their accountability failure.
