Red Fort To Echo With Vande Mataram On 80th Independence Day Celebrations

India is preparing to celebrate its 80th Independence Day with immense national pride and enthusiasm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the National Flag from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort in Delhi and deliver his address to the nation. This year, the primary focus of the Independence Day celebrations will be on the theme of Youth Power and the journey towards a Developed India or Viksit Bharat by 2047. The government aims to highlight the pivotal role that the younger generation will play in shaping the future of the country over the next two decades.

Celebrating 150 Years of Vande Mataram

A significant highlight of this year's ceremony is the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. To mark this historic milestone, the national song will resonate through the Red Fort in a way never seen before. For the first time, there will be a mass singing of Vande Mataram from the ramparts of the Red Fort. The theme of Vande Mataram will also be reflected in the elaborate floral decorations on both sides of the ramparts, creating a visually stunning and patriotic atmosphere for all attendees and viewers across the globe.

Massive Youth Participation and Aerial Tributes

On the Gyan Path in front of the Red Fort, approximately 2500 students and volunteers from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and My Bharat (Mera Yuva Bharat) will create a formation of Vande Mataram. Following the Prime Minister's address, these NCC cadets and My Bharat volunteers will lead the mass singing of the national song, Vande Mataram. This will be followed by the National Anthem. During the singing of the national song, all attendees will be requested to stand in the attention position. In a special tribute to the 150 years of Vande Mataram, an Indian Air Force helicopter will fly over the Red Fort carrying a commemorative banner and will shower flower petals on the gathered crowd.

Nationwide Band Performances

The celebrations aren't limited to the capital. Between August 8 and August 15, special band performances will take place at 343 prominent locations across the country. Bands from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, NCC, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, BSF, IDS, RPF, and Assam Rifles will showcase their musical talents, while this year, the ceremony gives a special place to India's young talent and their achievements. Notably, 19 students who won medals in the 2026 International Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics Olympiads have been invited as special guests.

Special Arrangements for Young Achievers

Special seating arrangements have been made on the ramparts of the Red Fort for young students. The guest list also includes young innovators, interns from the PM Internship Scheme, representatives from startups, youth trained under the PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana, My Bharat Volunteers, and young beneficiaries of various government schemes. On top of that, students from Delhi Government schools who have achieved success in various quizzes and competitions have also been invited to witness the historic event.

Glimpses of Viksit Bharat @2047

The ceremony will also showcase India's progress in nuclear technology, space exploration, and general technological advancements. The Guard of Honour area will feature special floral decorations and backdrops depicting India's development journey and the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. Individuals who have contributed to the building of Viksit Bharat @2047 will be specially honored. This group includes women entrepreneurs from the PM Mudra Yojana, beneficiaries of PMAY(U), scientists, innovators, drivers from Bharat Taxi, beneficiaries of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, and artisans and farmers from the PM Vishwakarma Yojana.

Logistics and Visitor Facilities

In a unique move, the seating enclosures at the Independence Day ceremony will be named after major Indian lakes. This follows the tradition set during the Republic Day celebrations where enclosures were named after major rivers. For the convenience of the public, Delhi Metro services will begin at 4 AM on August 15 and will be free for invited guests. Around 200 volunteers from My Bharat and NCC will be deployed to assist visitors. Facilities such as wheelchairs for those in need, cloakrooms, drinking water, toilets, and rain ponchos will be provided. Information regarding all parking locations will be available on Google Maps and Mappls, with adequate signage placed along the routes.
