Sachin Pilot Slams BJP: Delimitation Without Census Is Unconstitutional And Unethical

Congress leader Sachin Pilot accused the BJP of attempting to conduct delimitation without a census and creating a manufactured two-thirds majority by breaking opposition parties like TMC and Shiv Sena.

Congress National General Secretary Sachin Pilot has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led central government, accusing it of undermining democratic values and constitutional processes. Speaking on Friday, Pilot addressed the current political climate, specifically focusing on the government's alleged attempts to secure a two-thirds majority through artificial means. He stated that while the public has given the BJP a mandate to run the government, they've certainly not granted them a two-thirds majority. According to Pilot, any attempt to artificially manufacture a mandate that wasn't explicitly given by the voters is a direct violation of democratic principles and the trust of the people.

The Issue of Manufactured Mandate

Sachin Pilot specifically highlighted the recent developments involving the breaking of Members of Parliament (MPs) from opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Shiv Sena, while he argued that the central government and the BJP are actively working to destabilize other political parties to bolster their own numbers in Parliament. Pilot remarked that trying to fulfill a political agenda through a manufactured mandate—by shifting MPs and breaking political parties—is an act that the citizens of India will never permit. He emphasized that such tactics to influence constitutional processes through artificial majorities are detrimental to the health of the nation's democracy.

Delimitation and the Necessity of Census

A major point of contention raised by the Congress leader was the government's approach toward the delimitation process. Pilot asserted that the government is attempting to push through delimitation without first conducting a national census. He outlined the established constitutional framework for such a significant process, stating that there is a clear sequence that must be followed. According to Pilot, the first step must be the completion of the census, followed by the formation of a Delimitation Commission, and only then should the actual process of delimitation proceed. He argued that attempting to bypass these foundational steps isn't only a violation of the set procedure but also serves a purely political motive.

Unconstitutional and Unethical Practices

Sachin Pilot didn't mince words when describing the government's actions, labeling the attempt to conduct delimitation without a proper basis as illegal, unethical, and unconstitutional. He suggested that the government is trying to revive bills that had previously failed by using this manufactured mandate to push their political agenda forward, while he warned that if constitutional procedures are manipulated by breaking political parties and shifting MPs to create an artificial mandate, the public won't accept it. Pilot concluded by saying that the people of the country are closely watching and understanding the methods being employed by the BJP to achieve its political goals, and they won't forgive such actions.
