Sangli Tragedy: 6 Devotees Killed, 15 Injured as Wall Collapses During Storm

A devastating incident occurred in the Sangli district of Maharashtra on Tuesday evening, where a wall collapse claimed the lives of six devotees and left fifteen others injured. The tragedy unfolded in Motewadi village, situated within the Jat taluka, during a religious program dedicated to Margubai Devi. What was supposed to be a spiritual gathering turned into a scene of chaos and mourning as a sudden and violent storm struck the region, leading to the fatal structural failure that trapped numerous individuals under debris.

Sudden Storm and the Collapse of the Tin Shed

According to detailed reports from the site, a large number of devotees had congregated in Motewadi village to participate in the religious festivities of Margubai Devi. As the rituals were underway, the weather conditions deteriorated rapidly, characterized by high-velocity winds and heavy rainfall. Seeking refuge from the intensifying storm, many attendees rushed towards a nearby construction site where a temporary tin shed had been erected, while they hoped the structure would provide safety from the elements.

However, the sheer force of the wind proved to be catastrophic. Eyewitnesses recounted that the powerful gusts ripped the tin shed from its moorings, sending it flying through the air. The airborne shed struck an adjacent wall constructed of raw bricks and Chira stones. The impact was so severe that the wall collapsed instantly onto the crowd of devotees huddled beneath and around it. The suddenness of the collapse left no time for the victims to escape, resulting in immediate casualties and widespread injuries.

The aftermath of the wall collapse revealed a grim toll. Six individuals lost their lives in the accident, including two young children aged 12 and 13 years. The loss of young lives has added a layer of profound grief to the tragedy. Among the deceased, four were identified as residents of the Jat taluka in Maharashtra's Sangli district.
