India / SN Shrivastava appointed Delhi police commissioner, succeeds Amulya Patnaik amid violence criticism

New Delhi: SN Shrivastava has been appointed Delhi police commissioner with immediate effect, the ministry of home affairs confirmed the development on Friday. He succeeds Amulya Patnaik under whose tenure Delhi witnessed its worst communal riots that has so far claimed 38 lives.

Just two days ago, with city police failing to control the riots in North East Delhi, the government immediately repatriated the 1985 batch IPS officer from the CRPF back to Delhi Police and appointed him as special commissioner of police – law and order.
