Delhi Weather Update / The heat in Delhi, the temperature is 40 degrees and the feel is 50! What is the reason?

The situation in Delhi is terrible due to the scorching heat. Even though the temperature is 42 degrees Celsius, it feels like 50 degrees due to humidity. The humid and sticky weather is increasing the troubles of the people. According to the Meteorological Department, relief is expected after May 22, rain is possible.

Delhi Weather Update: The scorching afternoons of Delhi are spewing fire these days. The sun is so strong that it seems as if the sun has come directly on the head. The situation is such that there is neither comfort inside the house, nor the courage to go out. The temperature may be recorded around 40-42 degrees Celsius, but its effect on the body feels like 50 degrees. The question arises that why is this happening? When will this mood of the weather change?

Humidity in the air has become the root of the problem

According to weather experts, the 'heat index' i.e. the actual feeling of heat is increasing in Delhi these days, the reason for which is the increasing humidity in the air. When there is high humidity in the atmosphere, the body's system of cooling itself by sweating fails. As a result, the temperature may be 41-42 degrees, but it feels like 48-50 degrees.

On May 21, the temperature was recorded at 42 degrees at Safdarjung Observatory, but due to 43% humidity, the heat was not less than 50 degrees. Not only this, the heat index i.e. the effect of heat on the body reached 49.6 degrees.

Why is it feeling more hot?

This increasing effect of heat is not only due to temperature, but is also caused by the combined effect of atmospheric conditions. The moisture present in the air along with hot winds is creating a very sticky and stifling atmosphere. This is the reason that the heat which was earlier felt in the afternoon, now starts bothering from 9 am and does not give relief till late evening.

When can relief be expected?

According to the Meteorological Department, Delhiites can get some relief from May 22. On this day, the maximum temperature is expected to fall, which can go up to about 39 degrees Celsius. At the same time, due to the effect of the cyclonic system forming over the Arabian Sea and the western disturbance, there is a possibility of strong storm and light rain in Delhi, which can reduce the humidity.

Waiting for the arrival of monsoon

Monsoon usually arrives in Delhi in the last week of June. Till then people will have to struggle with this scorching heat and sticky weather. The Meteorological Department has clarified that until the humidity level does not fall and the rain does not start, the heat index will remain high like this.

Tips: How to avoid heat?

  • Avoid going out during the hot part of the day (between 12 and 4 pm)
  • Wear light colored, loose and cotton clothes
  • Keep drinking plenty of water and avoid dehydration
  • Take special care of the elderly and children
  • Cover the sunlight coming from the roof or window with curtains
This heat of Delhi is no less than an ordeal. But it can be endured with caution and vigilance. Until the first monsoon rains bring relief, keeping yourself cool and safe should be the biggest priority.
