Supreme Court: The Supreme Court can give a decision on 2 such important issues today, after which the politics from Delhi to Maharashtra will change completely. The Constitutional Bench of the country's highest court on January 18 completed its hearing on the issue of Right to Services in Delhi and reserved its verdict. Along with this, a decision can also come today on the petitions filed by Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde Group on the right to form government in Maharashtra.

Chief Justice had formed the constitutional bench

Explain that a five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud of the Supreme Court had heard the issue of Right to Services in Delhi. Apart from Chief Justice Chandrachud, Justice MR Shah, Justice Krishna Murari, Justice Hema Kohli and Justice PS Narasimha are also included in this bench. The bench had reserved its decision on this issue on January 18 this year. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared on behalf of the Central Government and senior advocate AM Singhvi appeared on behalf of the Delhi Government.

Who will be the head of services in Delhi?

Let us tell you that there has been a dispute between the Delhi government and the central government about who will be the head of the departments that come under services in Delhi. The Delhi government had filed a petition in the Supreme Court on this issue, on which a two-member bench of the court gave a split verdict on February 14, 2019. One judge gave the Delhi government the right to control the Services Department, while another judge assigned the responsibility to the central government.

Delhi-Centre rivalry will reduce!

After this fragmented decision, the Supreme Court in May last year constituted a 5-member constitutional bench to settle the matter. The court had reserved its decision on this issue in January 2023 after several months of hearing. It is believed that with the decision of the Constitutional Bench, the ongoing enmity between the Kejriwal government and the Modi government regarding the rights in Delhi will be reduced to a great extent.

Whose government will be in Maharashtra

Along with Delhi, the Supreme Court can also give its verdict today on the petition of Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray regarding power in Maharashtra. Along with BJP, other parties including NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena are also eyeing this decision. Last year, Shiv Sena MLAs revolted against the then CM Uddhav Thackeray and elected Eknath Shinde as their new leader.

Decision can come on Shiv Sena dispute

The Governor of the state had directed CM Thackeray to conduct a floor test, solving the political crisis of the state, but before accepting this challenge, he resigned from his MVA coalition government. After this, Eknath Shinde formed his government in Maharashtra with the help of BJP. Angered by this change in power, Uddhav Thackeray had filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding restoration of his government, calling the rebellion illegal. On the other hand, the Shinde group had filed a caveat and requested not to issue any order without hearing their side.

The constitutional bench had completed the hearing on March 16.

A 5-member constitutional bench was constituted by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud to hear the case. This bench heard the case for 9 consecutive days from 21 February 2023. On the last day of the hearing, Chief Justice Chandrachud made an oral remark as to how she could restore the Uddhav Thackeray government when it had already resigned before facing the floor test. After this, the Supreme Court completed the hearing on March 16, 2023 and reserved the verdict.
