Udaipur: Lawyer Arrested for Blackmailing BJP Leader with AI-Generated Videos

In a significant development in Udaipur, Rajasthan, the local police have arrested an advocate following serious allegations leveled by a woman leader associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the complainant has accused the lawyer of drugging her and subsequently using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to create and manipulate obscene videos to blackmail her for sexual exploitation. The arrest was made by the Bhupalpura police following a formal First Information Report (FIR).

Details of the Complaint and Allegations

According to the FIR lodged at the Bhupalpura police station, the victim stated that the accused, identified as Advocate Vishal Gurjar, allegedly administered an intoxicating substance to her under false pretenses. The victim reported that she lost consciousness after consuming the substance. Upon regaining consciousness, the accused informed her that he had recorded obscene videos of her. The BJP leader further alleged that the advocate began using these recordings as a tool for blackmail, attempting to coerce her into physical relations.

Alleged Use of Artificial Intelligence

The case has drawn attention due to the alleged involvement of advanced technology. The victim claimed in her statement that Vishal Gurjar informed her about using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to manipulate the footage, while according to the allegations, the accused claimed to have created morphed videos featuring the victim with other acquaintances. Plus, the accused reportedly told the victim that he had prepared 7 to 8 copies of these manipulated videos and distributed them among his associates to ensure they could be leaked if she didn't comply with his demands.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following the formal complaint, the Udaipur police initiated a prompt investigation into the matter. Based on the evidence provided and the gravity of the charges, a police team conducted a raid and arrested Vishal Gurjar from his residence. During the operation, the police seized several items related to the case, including digital devices that are suspected to have been used in the creation or storage of the alleged videos. The seized materials are expected to undergo forensic examination to verify the claims regarding AI manipulation.

Judicial Custody and Current Status

After the arrest, the accused was produced before a local court, which subsequently ordered him to be sent to jail under judicial custody. The investigation is currently being spearheaded by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gopal Chandel, while the investigating officer is focusing on gathering digital evidence and recording statements from potential witnesses. While the investigation is ongoing, Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal has declined to provide further comments on the specifics of the case at this stage. The police are working to establish the full extent of the technological misuse involved in the crime.
