Amethi and Rae Bareli seats are important for Congress

Amethi and Rae Bareli have been traditional seats of Congress, from where only members of the Gandhi family have been contesting elections. In the last Lok Sabha elections, BJP's Smriti Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi from Amethi seat. Now it is being said that there is a strong demand by the party cadre to field former party president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from Rae Bareli seat, in view of which a decision can be taken in the Congress meeting on Saturday.

Rahul Gandhi is already contesting from Wayanad seat of Kerala and voting has been completed on that seat in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections, so in such a situation, Congress can make Rahul Gandhi a candidate from Amethi seat and Priyanka Gandhi can be made a candidate from this Lok Sabha seat. For the first time in the elections, there is talk of fielding a candidate from Rae Bareli. The State Election Committee of Uttar Pradesh unit of Congress had proposed the names of Rahul Gandhi from Amethi and Priyanka Gandhi from Rae Bareli and in the last Central Election Committee meeting also there was discussion about these two seats but Gandhi decided to contest the elections on the respective seats.
