Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a series of major welfare measures for the Prantiya Rakshak Dal (PRD) volunteers in Uttar Pradesh during a dedicated convention held in Gorakhpur. The state government has Importantly increased the daily duty allowance for these volunteers, raising it from 500 rupees to 600 rupees per day. This move is aimed at providing better financial stability to the thousands of PRD personnel who assist the police and administration in maintaining law and order across the state, while along with the allowance hike, the Chief Minister also launched a comprehensive cashless medical facility that provides health coverage of up to 5 lakh rupees per year for the volunteers and their families.
Historical Increase in Duty Allowance
During the convention organized at the Yogiraj Baba Gambhirnath Auditorium, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the historical progression of the duty allowance for PRD volunteers. He noted that for a very long time since the formation of the PRD in 1948, the volunteers received a meager 250 rupees per day. It was only in 2019 that the allowance was increased to 375 rupees. Subsequently, in 2022, it was raised to 395 rupees, and by 2025, it had reached 500 rupees. With the latest announcement, the allowance has been increased by another 100 rupees, bringing the total to 600 rupees per day. The Chief Minister emphasized that while it took 75 years for the allowance to reach 250 rupees, his government has managed to increase it from 250 to 600 rupees in just the last eight years.
Cashless Medical Treatment for 31 Thousand Personnel
A major highlight of the event was the launch of the Mukhyamantri PRD Cashless Medical Scheme. Under this initiative, more than 31,000 PRD volunteers across the state, along with their family members, will be eligible for free cashless medical treatment up to 5 lakh rupees every year. This facility will be available at government hospitals as well as private hospitals empaneled by the government, while 55 lakh people are expected to benefit from this health scheme. During the program, the Chief Minister personally distributed cashless medical facility cards to several PRD volunteers to mark the commencement of the scheme.
Infrastructure Development and Multi Story Barracks
In addition to financial and health benefits, the Chief Minister also focused on improving the living conditions and infrastructure for the PRD personnel. From Gorakhpur, he used a remote to lay the foundation stone for a multi-story PRD barrack to be constructed in Lucknow. This project will be built at an estimated cost of approximately 23 crore rupees. The government stated that this new facility will help in providing better amenities and accommodation for PRD volunteers when they're stationed in the state capital for various duties. The Chief Minister lauded the role of PRD volunteers, stating that they play a crucial role in maintaining law and order in cooperation with the police and administration.
Massive Surge in PRD Budget
The convention also saw participation from Dr, while somendra Tomar, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Political Pension, Civil Welfare, and Prantiya Rakshak Dal. He provided insights into the financial strengthening of the department under the current administration. Minister Tomar revealed that before 2017, the total budget for the PRD was around 23 crore rupees. However, under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, this budget has seen a massive increase and has now reached 543 crore rupees. He described the PRD volunteers as a strong foundation for peace, security, and public service in Uttar Pradesh.
Recognition of Volunteers and Distribution of Cards
During the event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presented cashless medical facility cards to 10 selected PRD volunteers as a symbolic gesture. The recipients included Ajay, Bhimsen, Dhirendra, and Umesh Kumar from Gorakhpur. Other recipients were Snehlata Rawat and Anamika Verma from Lucknow, Chanda Bharti from Kushinagar, Jai Singh from Mau, Mo. Shakir from Chandauli, and Kishan Gupta from Varanasi. The Chief Minister noted that before 2017, PRD volunteers didn't receive adequate duty opportunities. However, given their significant contributions in relief work during disasters, Mahakumbh, Deepotsav, Rangotsav, traffic management, and election duties, there are now occasions where the number of available personnel falls short of the demand.
