Free Electricity: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that his government is fulfilling the "guarantee" given to the people of the state, under which 300 units of electricity will be given free to each household every month from Friday. The Aam Aadmi Party government had earlier announced that it would provide 300 units of free electricity to every household from July 1.

'Setting a new example in the history of Punjab'

Mann tweeted, "Earlier governments used to make promises during elections...5 years would have passed for promises to be fulfilled, but our government has set a new example in the history of Punjab. Today we are going to fulfill another promise made to Punjabis. From today, every family in Punjab will get 300 units of free electricity per month.

One of the promises made by AAP during the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections was to provide 300 units of free electricity to every household every month. AAP leader and Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha said that Punjab has become the second state after Delhi to provide free electricity to the people.

Chadha tweeted, "Today is a historic day, as Punjab has become the second state after Delhi to get free electricity. The 'Kejriwal gave first guarantee' to Punjabis has been fulfilled.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, while presenting the AAP government's first budget on June 27, had said that providing 300 units of electricity free of cost would put an additional burden of Rs 1,800 crore on the exchequer.
