Bangkok: We know Godzilla vs Kong is still fresh in the minds of movie buffs around the world. But what you are about to witness might make you want to either revisit the MonsterVerse movies or read up about giant lizards.

A video that is going viral shows a giant monitor lizard scaling the shelves and knocking down products at a supermarket in Thailand.

The terrifying scene was filmed at a 7 Eleven store in Thailand and later shared online by Thai travel agency Mundo Nomada.

The video shows the monitor lizard scaling a set of shelves and knocking down packaged items in the process before resting on a top shelf. It is then seen looking over the store while flicking its tongue in and out.

The original video garnered more than a million views before it was deleted from Twitter. The clip has now been shared on Facebook and YouTube.

In a follow-up tweet, Mundo Nomada explained that monitor lizards are quite common in Bangkok and other parts of the country. However, it was unusual for one to find its way to a supermarket as they are known to mostly feast on the decaying flesh of dead animals.

“The shelves are ruined! Oh my God,” a voice can be heard in the background as the eight-feet long lizard scaled the shelves.

Towards the end of the clip, the lizard is seen resting atop the shelf close to the ceiling while shoppers look in horror.

While the predators look very intimidating due to their size, they generally do not pose a threat to humans, according to experts at the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology.

Some locals have speculated that the lizard came into the store as it was trying to escape the humid climate.

Interestingly, this isn't the first time that a monitor lizard made a public appearance in Thailand. Back in 2016, many were seen overrunning Bangkok's Lumpini Park.
