Indore: Son of BJP heavyweight Kailash Vijayvargiya and Indore-3 MLA Akash Vijayvargiya on Thursday defended the Shivraj government’s move of allowing liquor shops to open during the Covid-19 times.“Opening of liquor shops was necessary for the generation of revenue. The government needs revenue during the fight against Covid-19,” he told reporters while replying to a query on the government's move to open liquor shops but not shrines.Akash said that there is no dispute on the fact that liquor is a social evil and its sale should be banned in the state.“Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is also of that view and he is committed to ban the sale of liquor in the state. But this is not the time for such a move. Liquor is a source of tax. And at this juncture, the state badly needs funds,” said Akash.Over phased wise unlocking of the city, Akash said that in the crisis management committee meeting, he had suggested that the city should be divided into four parts.“One day one part should be allowed to open fully while the remaining three parts remain shut. On a rotation basis, the four parts should be allowed to open. In this way, I thought everyone shopkeeper would get equal opportunity to do their businesses,” he said adding that other members thought that only essential items shops should remain open on select days. “Later, the entire city will be allowed to open when cases will go down,” he went on to add.Akash believes that vaccination is the biggest weapon in the fight against Covid-19.“Efforts are on to ensure that people are inoculated as soon as possible,” he said.
