Weather Update / Heavy rain in Delhi-NCR, further drop in temperature, strong wind increased cold

Weather Update: Heavy rains in Delhi-NCR once again changed the mood of the weather. Due to rain, a sharp drop in temperature has been recorded for the last two days. Heavy rains were witnessed in most areas of Delhi-NCR on Monday evening. The drop in temperature was visible since morning. The Meteorological Department had also predicted rain and hailstorm.

After pleasant weather throughout the day, it rained heavily in many parts of Delhi today. The day's minimum temperature settled at 17.4 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, while the humidity level ranged between 48 per cent and 94 per cent. After the rain, the temperature is expected to drop further.

Rain and hailstorm lashed the national capital on Saturday as well, with the maximum temperature settling at 25.3 degrees Celsius, five notches below the season's average, the lowest this month so far, officials said.

Sunday's rain also led to water-logging and traffic jams in many parts of the city. Officials said the Delhi Traffic Police received three calls regarding waterlogging near Tikri border, Bagga Link roundabout at Karol Bagh and Loni Road roundabout. Traffic complaints were received from Bhikaji Cama Place, Jain Nagar and Khajuri to Bhajanpura road.

The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of cloudy sky and drizzle on Tuesday as well. Delhi's air quality has also marginally improved due to rain. At 4 pm, the 24-hour Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi was recorded at 154 in the 'moderate' category.

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor' and 401 and 500 'very poor'. Between is considered 'severe'.
