ED raid in Ranchi / Huge cash recovered from Jharkhand minister aide's home

During the Lok Sabha elections, a major action by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has come to light in Jharkhand. The central agency is raiding many places in Ranchi. In the Virendra Ram case, a huge amount of cash was recovered from the domestic assistant of Sanjeev Lal, PS of Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam. There are heaps of bundles of notes, seeing which even the officials have been baffled, machines have been called in to count them.


In the video released by ED officials, it can be seen how the notes were kept in the house. Bundles of notes were kept in bags, suitcases and polythene. Officials are searching every corner of the house.


Under PMLA, raids have been conducted at about half a dozen locations. This action of ED is also being taken at the locations of suspended Chief Engineer Virendra Ram and his close ones. The ED had arrested Virendra Ram, Chief Engineer of Jharkhand Rural Development Department, in February 2023 in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the implementation of some schemes.


In February last year, the agency had arrested Virendra Ram after a long interrogation. ED had conducted a search operation on 21 February 2023 in Ranchi, Jamshedpur and some other places in Jharkhand, Bihar and Delhi, after which he was caught. The agency had seized cash worth Rs 30 lakh, jewelery worth Rs 1.5 crore, 8 luxury cars and SUVs worth several crores from various premises, metro and flats and bungalows in other cities.
