Cricket / If Azharuddin has inside info, he should tell us: Gavaskar on Kohli-Rohit's alleged rift

Cricket Desk: 'This substantiates rift rumours between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma', read the tweet from former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin seeing India's white-ball and red-ball skippers missing out on different parts of the South Africa tour. However, another former India skipper, Sunil Gavaskar, isn't happy seeing people 'jump to conclusion' and has asked Azhar to share inside information if he has any on the alleged Kohli-Rohit rift.

Just a day after Rohit was ruled out of the Test series against South Africa, news of Virat wanting to be rested from the ODIs broke. More than the developments themselves, the timing of these announcements made many feel as if there's something fishy.

"Virat Kohli has informed that he's not available for the ODI series & Rohit Sharma is unavailable fr d upcoming test. There is no harm in takin a break but d timing has to be better. This just substantiates speculation abt d rift. Neither wil be giving up d other form of cricket.", Azharuddin wrote.

Azharuddin took to Twitter to highlight that the timing of these developments substantiates the 'rift rumours' between Kohli and Rohit. Gavaskar, however, is not convinced and has asked people against jumping to conclusions.

"The question is, 'is there anything simmering at all (between Kohli and Rohit)?',” he was quoted as saying by India Today.

The original Little Master even asked Azharuddin to share the inside information he has (if any) based on which he tweeted about the alleged rift between two of the biggest stars in Indian cricket at present.

"Unless both the players come out with something, we should not jump to conclusions. Yes, Azharuddin has said something but if he has got some inside information about what has happened then he should be coming out and telling us what happened.

"Till then, I will give the benefit of the doubt to both the players. Because both have served Indian cricket brilliantly and I don't think it is fair at all for any one of us, without having exact information, to be pointing fingers at either of them," Gavaskar said.

Kohli is scheduled to address media in a press conference on Wednesday. He is expected to be bombarded with questions over the rumours floating on social media, be it over the ODI captaincy change, his participation in the limited-overs series against South Africa and even his rapport with Rohit.
