Prime Minister Narendra Modi's three-day visit to Indonesia has marked a new golden chapter in the history of bilateral relations between the two nations, while upon his arrival in Jakarta, Prime Minister Modi was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace, which set the stage for high-level discussions. Following the welcome, he engaged in extensive bilateral and delegation-level talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. Major Breakthrough in Defense Cooperation

Under this landmark deal, India will supply its advanced indigenous Astra air-to-air missiles to Indonesia. In a historic move for Indian academia, IIM Bangalore will open a branch in Indonesia, fostering educational exchange and management excellence. Another unique aspect of this collaboration is India's assistance in the democratic process; India will specially develop Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for Indonesia to help conduct their national elections. Strategically, both nations have agreed on the co-development of the Sabang Port, located near the crucial Strait of Malacca. This project is of immense importance for regional maritime security and trade. During the visit, President Prabowo Subianto hosted a state banquet in honor of Prime Minister Modi, where he expressed high praise for the Indian leader's vision and leadership. The President noted the deep-rooted influence of Indian culture on Indonesia, pointing out that 30 to 40 percent of the Indonesian language consists of Indian words. He also mentioned that many Indonesians carry Indian names and that the national emblem of Indonesia, the Garuda, is derived from Indian mythology.

Recognition and Diplomatic Milestones

President Prabowo expressed his personal admiration for Prime Minister Modi's working style, stating that he has already adopted and implemented several of Modi's schemes in Indonesia. In a gesture of profound respect, Indonesia conferred its highest civilian award, the Bintang Adipurna, upon Prime Minister Modi. Also, Prime Minister Modi made history by becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Indonesian Parliament, where he spoke about the ancient and historical ties between the two countries. The visit also highlighted the strong people-to-people connection, with approximately 300000 people of Indian origin residing in Indonesia and around 9000 Indian citizens contributing to various Indonesian industries.
