A major accident occurred at the Bargi Dam in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, when a cruise ship filled with tourists sank. So far, the deaths of four people have been confirmed in this tragic incident. At the time of the accident, approximately 35 to 40 tourists were on board the cruise, enjoying a ride in the dam waters. The sudden sinking caused panic in the area, and local authorities were immediately alerted. Police and rescue teams have managed to save more than 15 people, while several others remain missing.
Rescue Operations and Casualties
The accident took place on Thursday evening while the cruise was ferrying tourists across the Bargi Dam. Upon hearing the cries for help, nearby residents informed the police. CSP Anjul Ayak Mishra arrived at the scene with a police force shortly after receiving the information. NDRF and SDRF teams were summoned urgently to initiate a rescue operation. According to CSP Anjul Ayak Mishra, four people have died in the incident so far, and more than 15 individuals have been rescued. The search for the remaining missing persons is ongoing as divers scour the waters.
Cause of the Accident: Severe Storm
According to reports, a sudden and severe storm hit the Bargi Dam area on Thursday evening. At that moment, the cruise was in the deep backwaters of the Narmada River, while due to high waves and the pressure of strong winds, the cruise lost its balance and submerged into the water within moments. This cruise was operated by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Corporation (MPT). Local witnesses stated that the storm was so sudden that the cruise operator didn't have enough time to stabilize the vessel before it sank.
Administrative Response and Medical Aid
Upon receiving news of the tragedy, Jabalpur Collector Raghavendra Singh left for the Bargi Dam. Senior officials from the police and district administration are present at the site to oversee the rescue efforts. Those rescued have been rushed to the nearest hospital for medical treatment, while a large number of local residents are also assisting the NDRF and SDRF teams in the operation. The administration's current priority is to locate the missing individuals as quickly as possible and provide necessary care to the injured.
Currently, the rescue operation at Bargi Dam is continuing at a rapid pace. Police and administration teams are working through the evening to find the missing tourists. Local divers and rescue units are conducting search operations in the deep waters to account for all passengers who were on board.
