An interesting incident happened in the Delhi High Court on Wednesday. A bench of Justice Rekha Palli was hearing the cases. Meanwhile, during the hearing of a case, the lawyer was repeatedly addressing him as 'Sir'. After listening to 'Sir-Sir' for some time, Justice Palli interrupted and advised the lawyer.

According to Livelaw's report, Justice Rekha Palli objected to addressing him with the word 'Sir' and said- 'I am not Sir. I hope that in future you will not address like this.' To this the lawyer said, 'Because of this chair, he is repeatedly addressing him as Sir.'

After hearing this, Justice Palli got furious. He told the young lawyer that the excuse to address him as 'Sir' because of the chair is shoddy, as the chair is not only for 'Sir'. It is even worse because even after so long you think that the chair is only for 'Sir'. If youth members don't stop making a difference, what do we hope for in the future?'

There are very few women judges in the country's courts. In 2021, women judges had filed a public interest litigation in the Supreme Court regarding this. He said that more number of women should be made judges in the courts. In the PIL, it was said that the High Courts of Manipur, Meghalaya, Patna, Tripura and Uttarakhand do not have a single woman judge, while only one each in the High Courts of Guwahati, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan and Sikkim. The woman is the judge.
