Mamata Banerjee Slaps TMC Worker: Viral Video Sparks Outrage During Kolkata Protest

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was caught on camera slapping a TMC worker during a protest march in Kolkata. The incident occurred while she was leading a rally against the Baruipur rape-murder case. BJP MP Raju Bista shared the video, criticizing the CM's behavior.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has sparked a fresh political controversy after a video emerged showing her slapping a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker during a protest march in Kolkata, while the incident, which took place on Wednesday, has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Chief Minister was leading a massive rally to protest against the horrific rape and murder of an 11 year old girl in Baruipur, an incident that has shocked the state. As the procession moved through the streets of South Kolkata, the viral video captured a moment where the TMC supremo appeared to lose her temper with a party worker who was attempting to manage the crowd and clear a path for her movement.

The Incident Near Kalighat

The sequence of events began as the protest march was nearing its conclusion. Mamata Banerjee had joined the rally after stepping out of her residence in the Kalighat area. The video footage shows a chaotic scene with a large number of supporters and onlookers surrounding the Chief Minister. A TMC worker can be seen in the video actively trying to organize the line of supporters and ensuring that the path remained clear for Mamata Banerjee. However, for reasons that appeared to be related to the lack of order in the procession, the Chief Minister was seen becoming visibly frustrated. In a sudden move, she was captured on camera slapping the worker. The individual was reportedly trying to help the Chief Minister navigate through the dense crowd, but his efforts were met with a physical outburst from the party leader.

BJP MP Raju Bista Reacts

The video was quickly picked up by opposition leaders, with BJP MP Raju Bista sharing the clip on the social media platform X. In his post, Bista launched a scathing attack on the Chief Minister, criticizing her behavior towards her own party workers. He wrote that Mamata Banerjee slapped a person during the TMC protest who was actually trying to control the crowd and make way for her. Bista further noted that the Chief Minister lost her cool and struck her own party worker, highlighting what he described as a lack of temperament, while the BJP has used this incident to question the Chief Minister's conduct in public spaces, especially during a sensitive protest rally.

Protest Against Baruipur Incident

The rally itself was organized to demand justice for an 11 year old girl who was raped and murdered in Baruipur. This case has become a major point of contention in West Bengal politics. During the march, Mamata Banerjee took the opportunity to hit out at both the police and the opposition. Addressing a gathering at the Hazra Crossing in South Kolkata after the conclusion of the march, she alleged that the police weren't acting impartially. She claimed that the police had functioned as a branch of the BJP instead of ensuring the implementation of the Calcutta High Court order that had granted permission for the rally.

Allegations of Sabotage and Clashes

Mamata Banerjee further alleged that BJP supporters had actively tried to disrupt the TMC rally. She stated that the High Court had given permission for their protest, yet BJP workers blocked their path and assaulted TMC workers at various locations along the route. She questioned how the police could ignore a court order and fail to provide security to the general public. The Chief Minister claimed that the police were being used to spoil their program rather than maintaining law and order. The situation escalated during the rally when workers from the BJP and the TMC youth wings engaged in direct clashes. The intensity of the confrontation forced the police to resort to a lathi charge to bring the situation under control and disperse the clashing groups.
