UP: BSP supremo Mayawati's strategy worked completely in the Lok Sabha by-elections. By fielding Shah Alam Guddu Jamali in Azamgarh seat, he spoiled the game by creating obstacles in the path of SP by dividing the Muslim votes, then by not fielding a candidate in Rampur, but by stopping the distribution of Dalit votes, he made it easier for the BJP.

SP and BSP had fought the Lok Sabha elections together in the year 2019. Then SP won both Rampur and Azamgarh seats. In Azamgarh, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav himself won 6 lakh 21 thousand 578. Yadav, Muslim and Dalit votes are believed to have contributed to this. SP and BSP fought separately in the by-election. Mayawati, following a slow trick, fielded Shah Alam Guddu Jamali from Azamgarh seat. Guddu is a Muslim and has a good reputation in the surrounding areas of Azamgarh. This was the reason that a good part of the Muslim and Dalit votes went to his account.

SP's game spoiled due to non-receipt of one-sided Muslim vote

Guddu Jamali got 2 lakh 66 thousand 210 votes and SP's Dharmendra Yadav got 3 lakh 4089 votes. If these two votes are combined, then it becomes 570299, which is 51279 less than the total votes that Akhilesh got in the year 2019. It is clear from this that in the Azamgarh seat in the by-election, the game was spoiled due to the non-unilateral vote of the Muslims in the SP. Had it not been so, the SP could have easily won this seat. Mayawati had made it clear that there would be a direct fight between BJP and SP by not fielding candidates in Rampur seat. Most of the Dalit votes in Rampur were likely to go to the BJP, the results show that something similar happened.
