An official associated with metro operations said on the condition of anonymity, "Birds are a big problem for the metro. In 2017 an attempt was made to deal with this by installing German technical spikes discs. Incidents have decreased since then, but the increasing number of eagles is a cause for concern. The Yamuna Bank area is most affected by Indraprastha. The reason for this is the nearby Ghazipur landfill site and the slaughterhouse.

The eagles hovering here come to the Yamuna submergence area in search of water. Due to this many times they collide with the high voltage wires of the metro. There is currently no technology globally to prevent birds from hitting power lines, the official said. However, DMRC is engaged in assessing the sudden wire break. On preliminary basis, it is believed that the OHE malfunctioned due to the sitting of an eagle or other heavy bird, which affected the operations.

Major reasons for failure in metro

Bird collision: Many times the catenary wire in the OHE breaks due to the collision of the bird, due to which the speed of the metro is braked.

Signaling problem: A fault in signaling in a particular section of the metro line leads to loss of contact with the control room, forcing the train to operate manually.

- Losing Train ID: Metro train sets have an ID number at the time of operation. That's where he gets his identity. Loss of ID of a train stops its display in the control room. In that case also the train is pushed forward manually.

External reasons: If any metal falls on the wires of many metro corridors (elevated part), then it brakes on the speed. It contains cloth, wire and other items. This usually happens when birds are dropped or when a storm comes.

Bird expert Fayaz Khudssar says that in summer, birds go towards rivers in search of water. That area of ​​Yamuna (from Indraprastha to Yamuna Bank) is a submerged area. Here this bird sometimes comes to the swamp for both water and food. He said that meat is thrown everywhere in Delhi. This bird does not hunt itself. He goes anywhere in search of food. This leads to accidents like this.

At the same time, Nikhil of Delhi Bird Society believes that the eagle is a big problem. The reason for this is that he is a bird of sewer behavior. For example, he does not kill his own prey. Since they have good ability to see, they can see the dead prey fish, rat and others from above. comes down for him. At that time such incidents happen many times. If there are thousands of eagles in Delhi, then such an incident cannot be avoided.
