Punjab assembly session begins / Newly elected MLA reached the assembly, pro tem speaker administered oath

The six-day session of the 16th Punjab Legislative Assembly began on Thursday. The newly elected MLAs reached the house. After this, Pro-tem Speaker Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar administered the oath to the MLAs. Congress MLA and former Deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who reached the House, said that as a member of the opposition, he would continue to raise issues related to Punjab. At the same time, AAP MLA Hardeep Singh Mundia said that both the old parties had started looting people. There are many issues, a new Punjab has to be created. On the other hand, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann raised the slogan of Inquilab Zindabad after taking oath.


The session will continue till March 22. The House will not function on Friday, March 18 due to Holi and weekly holidays on March 19 and 20. Earlier on Wednesday, Governor Banwari Lal Purohit administered oath to Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar as the Pro-tem Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly at the Raj Bhavan. Inderbir Singh Nijjar is the MLA of Aam Aadmi Party from Amritsar South constituency of Punjab. This appointment was made to conduct the proceedings of the session.

After a three-day break, the session will begin at 11 am on March 21 and the Speaker will be elected by the MLAs and the Governor's address will be held at 12 noon. Tributes will be paid to the departed personalities in the meeting of 22 March and after that discussion will start in the House on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor's Address. After this, supplementary estimates for the year 2021-22 will be presented by the government as well as vote-on-account (vote-on-account).
