Parliament Session / Operation Sindoor, Manipur and IT Bill... Time fixed in Parliament for discussion

The first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which began on July 21, was marred by uproar from the opposition. The Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned thrice. There was disruption in the Rajya Sabha as well. An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of PM Modi. There will be a 25-hour discussion on Operation Sindoor next week.

Parliament Session: The monsoon session of Parliament began on 21 July 2025, but its first day was marked by uproar and disruptions. With the beginning of the session in the Lok Sabha, the proceedings had to be adjourned thrice due to the uproar of the opposition MPs and eventually adjournment was announced for the day. The situation was no different in the Rajya Sabha, where the proceedings could not start smoothly due to the opposition's protest and it also had to be adjourned.

The Select Committee report on the Income Tax Bill 2025 was presented in the Lok Sabha, but after this the opposition leaders again started a ruckus. As a result, the proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm and then for the whole day. On the other hand, the Bills of Lading Bill, 2025 was passed in the Rajya Sabha, which was the only notable achievement of the first day of the session.

Preparation for extensive discussion on Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor will be a major issue in this session of Parliament. A discussion of 16 hours has been scheduled on it in the Lok Sabha and 9 hours in the Rajya Sabha. This operation has become a symbol of India's military might and decisive action against terrorism. Apart from this, other important bills will also be discussed in the Lok Sabha:

  • Income Tax Bill 2025: 12 hours of discussion
  • Indian Post Bill: 3 hours of discussion
  • National Sports Bill: 8 hours of discussion
  • Manipur Budget: 2 hours of discussion
Additionally, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has demanded a discussion on the completion of 50 years of Emergency, while BJP leader Anurag Thakur has raised the demand for discussion on the issue of rain and floods in Himachal Pradesh.

Important meeting chaired by PM Modi

A high-level meeting was held in Parliament House on Monday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting was attended by many prominent leaders including Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. The meeting focused on the strategy and plan to pass important bills during the session. The monsoon session of Parliament will run from July 21 to August 21, in which several important bills are likely to be introduced and passed.

Operation Sindoor: India's display of military might

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, before the start of the Parliament session, emphasised the success of Operation Sindoor, calling it a "Vijayotsav". "The whole world has seen India's military might. Operation Sindoor was a complete success, in which terrorist hideouts were destroyed in just 22 minutes," he said. The PM also mentioned that before 2014, the inflation rate was in double digits, which has now come down to just 2 per cent.
