Padma Awards: President Draupadi Murmu honored 53 celebrities with Padma awards on Wednesday at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Among them former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Late. Mulayam Singh Yadav, Medical Professional Dilip Mahalanabis, Author Sudha Murthy, Researcher Deepak Dhar, Novelist SL Bhairappa, Vedic Scholar Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, Music Director of Oscar Winner Natu-Natu Song MM Keeravani, Film Actress Raveena Tandon etc.
Shah Rashid Ahmed Qadri said to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who reached the Padma award ceremony – During Congress rule, I did not get Padma Shri. I had thought that the BJP government would not give me this honour, but you proved me wrong. Awarded with Padma Shri, Qadri is a craftsman of Bidri art. He has been working in this craft for more than fifty years. He developed the Bidri craft by inventing many designs and patterns.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda and other Union ministers were present at the ceremony.
The President had approved the conferment of 106 Padma Awards, including three combined awards, on the eve of Republic Day. 53 personalities were honored at the ceremony held on 22 March. On Wednesday, 53 awardees were felicitated. These include three Padma Vibhushan, five Padma Bhushan and 45 Padma Shri.
These awards are given for outstanding work in various disciplines, fields such as arts, social work, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports and civil service.
