Rahul Gandhi Slams Centre Over Cancellation Of 3 UGC NET Exams

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has criticized the Modi government and NTA after the cancellation of UGC-NET exams for three subjects. He termed the system an extraction machine that fails to conduct exams properly while causing mental and financial distress to thousands of candidates.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has launched a scathing attack on the central government following the cancellation of UGC-NET examinations for three specific subjects. Taking to the social media platform X, the Congress leader accused the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government of creating a system that's incapable of conducting even a single examination properly. He highlighted that the NTA cancelled the papers nearly two months after they were conducted, which has left the future of thousands of students in jeopardy.

Details of the Cancelled Examinations

The UGC-NET examinations for the subjects of Sociology, English, and Commerce were originally conducted between June 22 and June 30. However, after a gap of approximately two months, the NTA decided to cancel these exams, while the reason cited for this major decision was that the agency had set incorrect paper sets and had repeated old questions. The NTA admitted to several discrepancies, including factual errors, typing mistakes, translation issues, and grammatical blunders. Plus, spelling and printing errors were also acknowledged by the agency, leading to the inevitable cancellation of the tests for these three subjects.

Rahul Gandhi Criticizes the Extraction Machine

In his detailed post on X, Rahul Gandhi expressed his anger over the plight of the candidates. He stated that thousands of aspirants who prepared for years, filled out forms, paid fees, and traveled to far-flung examination centers will now have to undergo the entire process again in September. He remarked that while the NTA commits the errors, it's the students who are forced to face the punishment. Gandhi reiterated his observations from his visits to Kota, Dehradun, and Prayagraj, stating that the current setup is no longer an education system but has turned into an 'extraction machine'. According to him, this machine takes away the students' money, their years, their mental health, and their self-confidence without giving anything in return, not even jobs.

Demands for Accountability and Resignation

The Congress leader further questioned the transparency of the NTA, asking whether these papers were leaked before the examination. He alleged that like other departments of the Modi government, the NTA never admits its mistakes. He expressed certainty that, similar to other botched examinations, no one would be held accountable for this failure. Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan was only the first step and not the last. He demanded that the leadership of the NTA must also be held accountable for these repeated failures. He told the students that PM Modi has built a system that can't conduct exams correctly and then blames the students themselves, while he vowed that the opposition wouldn't stop until the Prime Minister provides answers for the years being stolen from the youth.

New Schedule for UGC-NET Re-exams

Following the cancellation, the NTA has announced the dates for the re-examinations of the three subjects. The exams for English, Commerce, and Sociology will now be held on September 9 and September 10. According to the official schedule, the English paper is set for September 9 starting at 9 AM. The Commerce examination will take place on the same day, September 9, starting at 3 PM. The Sociology paper is scheduled for September 10 at 9 AM. In a small relief to the affected candidates, the NTA has clarified that students won't be required to pay any additional fees for appearing in these re-examinations.
