Rajasthan Farmers To Get Fertilizer Via Online Booking Ending Long Queues

The Rajasthan government has launched an online booking system for fertilizers through the FFS app, allowing farmers to book stock from home and avoid long queues at distribution centers.

In a significant move to assist the farming community, the Rajasthan government has introduced an online booking system for fertilizers, while this initiative, launched from Jaipur, aims to provide much-needed relief to farmers who previously had to wait in long queues for hours to secure essential fertilizers for their crops. With the introduction of this digital system, farmers can now book their fertilizer requirements through their smartphones and collect them from authorized vendors at their convenience. This new arrangement is expected to bring transparency to the distribution process and ensure that farmers receive their supplies on time without any hassle.

Step-by-Step Online Booking Process

To avail of this facility, farmers are required to download the ‘Framework for Fertilizer Sale’ (FFS) app from the Google Play Store, while the login process is designed to be secure and user-friendly. Farmers can log in by entering either their Aadhaar number or their unique Farmer ID. Upon entering the details, a One-Time Password (OTP) will be sent to their registered mobile number. After successful login, the farmer must enter accurate details regarding their land holdings and the specific crops they're cultivating. Based on this information, they can select the type and quantity of fertilizer required.

Selecting Vendors and Generating QR Codes

Once the fertilizer selection is made, the farmer needs to enter the name of their village or panchayat. The app will then display a list of nearby fertilizer vendors, while a key feature of the app is the real-time stock indicator; vendors who have the required fertilizer in stock will be marked with a green signal. After choosing a convenient vendor, the farmer must enter the name and mobile number of the person who will collect the fertilizer, while once the process is completed, a digital QR code will be generated on the app. This code serves as the primary document for collection.

Collection and Verification at the Store

At the time of collection, the farmer or their designated representative must present the digital QR code to the selected vendor. The vendor will then use a Point of Sale (POS) machine to scan the QR code for verification. Once the verification is successful, the fertilizer will be handed over to the farmer, and a formal receipt will be issued. This digital trail ensures that the fertilizer reaches the intended beneficiary and prevents any unauthorized sales.

Provisions for Non-Smartphone Users

Recognizing that not all farmers may own a smartphone, the government has provided an alternative through E-mitra or Jan Suvidha Kendras, while farmers can visit these centers and use the FFS portal to book a digital token. For this, they must carry their Aadhaar card, land-related documents, and an active mobile number, while it's important to note that the digital token issued after online booking is valid for only 2 days. If the farmer fails to collect the fertilizer within this 48-hour window, the token will be automatically cancelled, and the reserved stock will be returned to the system for other farmers to book. In such cases, the farmer will have to initiate a fresh booking.

Impact on Transparency and Middlemen

Every year during the sowing season, farmers in Rajasthan face significant challenges in obtaining fertilizers, while as demand surges, farmers often have to make multiple trips to LAMPPS and cooperative societies, wasting valuable time in long queues. Also, there have been frequent complaints about middlemen exploiting the shortage to sell fertilizers at inflated prices, while the new online booking system is designed to eliminate these issues by providing a direct and transparent link between the farmer and the stock. By digitizing the process, the government aims to curb black marketing and ensure that every farmer gets their fair share of resources at the right time.
