New Delhi / Ramdev Lodges FIR Against Sitaram Yechury For Linking ‘Hinduism With Violence’

New Delhi: An FIR has been lodged against Communist Party of India Marxist or CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury for allegedly linking Hinduism with violence.

The complaint was registered by none other than Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday as he felt that the CPI(M) general secretary had hurt the sentiments of Hindus all over the country. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Haridwar Janmaijai Khanduri told PTI that Ramdev in his complaint had mentioned that Yechury is trying to defame Hinduism.

Ramdev had said, “It is an attempt by Yechury to defame the religion which must be condemned.” Following the registration of complaint, an FIR was lodged in the case and officials were asked to look into the matter immediately.

The FIR comes in the backdrop of the remarks made by the CPI leader that religious mythologies such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata were full of violence. Yechury’s remarks came after several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that Hindus cannot indulge in violence.

Following such statements, Yechury had said, “It is a fallacy to say that Hindus cannot engage in violence.” Thereafter, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut advised Yechury to drop his first name. “If Sitaram Yechury calls Ramayana and Mahabharata Hindu violence, then he should remove Sitaram from his name,” Raut had said.

Raut asked Yechury if he would call the action taken by security forces while defending the country against Pakistan-backed terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir as violence.

The Shiv Sena leader went on to say that Yechury should also change their candidate Kanhaiya Kumar’s name as his name is also Lord Krishna’s name.

He added, “What is the meaning of Hindus being violent? Ramayana and Mahabharata conveyed one central message – the victory of good over evil, truth over falsehood. Ram, Krishna and Arjuna are symbols of truth. If this is the meaning that they interpret then tomorrow they will say that our Jawans fighting against Pakistan is violence.”

“Sitaram Yechury’s ideology is his own ideology. His ideology has only one objective, i.e., to attack Hindus and make oneself the premier secular person,” Raut had claimed.
