Saras Dairy Hikes Milk Prices By 2 Rupees Per Liter In Rajasthan

Jaipur Dairy has announced a price increase of 2 rupees per liter for all Saras milk variants effective May 21, 2026. The hike also affects products like lassi, paneer, and curd, aimed at supporting milk producers and covering rising operational and fuel costs.

The Jaipur District Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited, popularly known as Jaipur Dairy, has announced a significant increase in the prices of Saras milk and its allied products across Rajasthan. Following the footsteps of national dairy giants like Amul and Mother Dairy, which recently raised their prices by 2 rupees per liter, Saras Dairy has implemented a similar hike. This decision is primarily aimed at providing economic relief to lakhs of milk producers in the state who are struggling with the challenges of a scorching summer and rising maintenance costs for their cattle. The new prices are set to take effect from the evening supply of Thursday, May 21, 2026, and will be fully operational across the distribution network thereafter.

New Price List for Saras Milk Variants

The price hike of 2 rupees per liter applies to all variants of Saras milk. Consumers will now have to pay more for their daily milk requirements.

  • Saras Taj (Toned Milk): The half-liter pack will now cost 28 rupees, while the one-liter pack is priced at 56 rupees.
  • Saras Smart (Double Toned Milk - DTM): The half-liter pack is now 24 rupees, and the one-liter pack will cost 48 rupees.
  • Saras Gold (Full Cream Milk): The half-liter pack has been revised to 35 rupees, and the one-liter pack will now be sold for 70 rupees.
  • Saras Standard (Shakti): The half-liter pack is priced at 31 rupees, while the one-liter pack will cost 62 rupees.

In addition to milk, the prices of other dairy-related products such as lassi, paneer, curd, and buttermilk have also seen a proportional and limited increase to maintain the balance between production costs and consumer affordability.

Economic Support for Milk Producers

The decision to hike prices isn't just about operational costs but also about supporting the backbone of the dairy industry—the farmers, while during this period of extreme heat, cattle rearers in Rajasthan are facing mounting expenses related to animal feed, green fodder, electricity, medicines, and general maintenance of livestock. To ensure that milk producers receive a fair price for their hard work and to maintain a steady supply of milk during the summer, Jaipur Dairy has increased the milk procurement price by 25 rupees per kilogram fat. Consequently, producers will now be paid at a rate of 875 rupees per kilogram fat, up from the previous rate of 850 rupees per kilogram fat.

On top of that, the additional fixed amount of 2 rupees per kilogram and the subsidy of 5 rupees per liter provided under the Chief Minister Milk Producer Sambal Yojana will continue to be paid to the farmers as before. This move is expected to result in an additional monthly payment of approximately 6 crore rupees to lakhs of milk producers in the districts of Jaipur, Kotputli, and Dausa. This financial boost is intended to strengthen the rural economy at the grassroots level and ensure that dairy collection remains strong despite the harsh weather conditions.

Reasons Behind the Price Revision

A spokesperson for Jaipur Dairy cited the rising operational costs driven by current global and national economic conditions as the primary reason for the consumer price hike. There has been a continuous increase in the prices of diesel, LDO, petrol, energy, transportation, and packaging materials. The spokesperson highlighted that the increase in packaging and transportation expenses alone had placed an additional financial burden of crores of rupees on the dairy. To ensure the uninterrupted availability of pure, high-quality, and safe milk to consumers, this limited price revision became necessary to sustain the dairy's operations and support the farming community.
