IND vs SA / Team India's shameful defeat in Centurion - Africa defeated by an innings and 32 runs

IND vs SA: India lost by an innings and 32 runs on the third day in the Centurion Test. South Africa all out the team for 131 runs in the second innings. Virat Kohli scored a fifty, the rest of the batsmen could not do anything special. Nandre Berger got 4 wickets from South Africa. On Tuesday, South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl at the SuperSport Park ground. India scored 245 runs in the first innings on the basis of KL Rahul's century. South Africa scored 408 runs in the first innings, Dean Elgar scored 185 runs. India was trailing by 163 runs but the team could score only 131 runs.

With the win in the first Test, South Africa has taken a 1-0 lead in the series. The second and last Test will be played in Cape Town from 3 January 2024. India has not been able to win the series in South Africa till date. With the defeat in the first Test, it was confirmed that Team India would return home without a series win on this tour too.

Elgar player of the match

Dean Elgar, who scored 185 runs in the first innings for South Africa, was the player of the match. He is playing the last series of his career. Kagiso Rabada from the team took 5 wickets in the first innings and 2 wickets in the second innings.

Nandre Berger, playing his debut match, took 3 wickets in the first innings and 4 wickets in the second innings. Marco Janson also got 3 wickets in the second innings, while one batsman was run out.

India all out in the third session

India started the third session with the score of 60/3. Shreyas Iyer 6, KL Rahul 4, Siraj 4 and Shardul Thakur were out after scoring just 2 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin, Prasidh Krishna and Jasprit Bumrah could not even open their account.

Virat Kohli remained at one end, scored his 30th Test fifty but could not save the team from innings defeat. Kohli scored 76 runs. In the session, Team India lost the last 7 wickets in scoring 69 runs. South Africa did not need to bat in the second innings.

Virat's 30th test fifty

India made a very bad start in its second innings, the openers returned to the pavilion at the score of 13 runs. After coming to the crease, Virat Kohli stayed till the end, he played an unbeaten inning of 76 runs on 82 balls. His innings included 12 fours and one six. Virat was out as the 10th batsman of India.

Burger took 2 wickets in 2 balls

KL Rahul, who scored a century in the first innings, was out after scoring 4 runs. He was caught in the slips by Nandre Berger. On the very next ball, Berger also sent Ravi Ashwin to the pavilion. Berger got both the successes in the 26th over. After the fall of 2 wickets, India could not even recover when Rabada got Shardul Thakur caught out.

Shreyas, Rahul and Ashwin out cheaply

Virat Kohli took over India's innings after losing 3 wickets for 52 runs. But in front of him, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Ravichandran Ashwin returned to the pavilion cheaply. Rahul and Ashwin were sent to the pavilion by Nandre Berger, while Shreyas was bowled by Janson.

The team lost 6 wickets on the score of 96 runs. Shreyas could score only 6 runs and Rahul could score only 4 runs. Ashwin could not even open an account.

Session-2: South Africa dominated, India's top order flopped again

India all out South Africa in the beginning of the second session. The team lost 2 wickets in adding 16 runs but their score reached 408 runs. The team got a lead of 163 runs in the first innings.

India's second innings also had a very bad start. Captain Rohit Sharma (0), Yashasvi Jaiswal (5 runs) and Shubman Gill (26 runs) returned to the pavilion cheaply. The team lost the wickets of its top-3 batsmen at the score of 52 runs.

Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer remained not out from India till the end of the session. The team scored 62 runs after losing 3 wickets in 16 overs. Nandre Berger, Kagiso Rabada and Marco Yanson got 1 wicket each from South Africa.

Rohit and Yashasvi returned to the pavilion cheaply

Team India started its second innings in the second session. India trailed by 163 runs in the first innings. The team's start in the second innings was even worse. Captain Rohit Sharma was out without opening the account, he was bowled by Kagiso Rabada.

Yashasvi Jaiswal also could not do anything special, he was caught behind on the ball of Nandre Berger after scoring 5 runs. The team had lost the wickets of the openers at the score of 13 runs.

Elgar out after scoring 185 runs, Bumrah took 4 wickets

South Africa scored 408 runs in the first innings, giving them a lead of 163 runs. Dean Elgar missed scoring a double century, he was out after scoring 185 runs. Marco Yanson scored 84 and David Bedingham scored 56 runs. For India, Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets and Mohammad Siraj took 2 wickets.

South Africa all out in the second session

After dominating the first session, South Africa lost its last 2 wickets in the second session. Bumrah sent Rabada and Berger to the pavilion. Captain Temba Bavuma could not come to bat due to hamstring injury.

South Africa could score only 16 runs in the second session and was all out on the score of 408 runs. The team got a lead of 163 runs in the first innings. Marco Janson remained not out after scoring 84 runs.

Elgar scored his 14th test century

Former South African captain Dean Elgar scored a century. He was caught behind after scoring 185 runs. He was caught by Shardul Thakur at the hands of wicketkeeper KL Rahul. Dean Elgar completed his 14th Test century off 140 balls.

Elgar made partnerships of 93 with Tony DeGeorge, 131 with David Bedingham and 111 runs with Marco Janson. Elgar is playing the last series of his international career, he had announced his retirement even before the series.

Yanson's second half-century

Marco Janson, who came to bat at number 7 for South Africa, led the team's innings along with Dean Elgar on the third day. After getting set, both of them played shots freely on bad balls. Yanson completed the second fifty of his Test career on 87 balls. He made a partnership of 111 runs with Dean Elgar. Yanson remained not out even after scoring 84 runs.

Records made so far in the match

KL Rahul became the first foreigner to score 2 centuries in Centurion. He had scored a century on the same ground in 2021 also.

Dean Elgar scored a Test century after almost 3 years. He scored his last century against Sri Lanka in January 2021. In January 2022, Elgar won the Test for South Africa by scoring 96 not out against India.

Kagiso Rabada has taken 500 international wickets. He took 5 wickets in the first innings, he got 5 wickets against India for the first time.
