Ahead of the midterm elections, the United States has carried out heavy bombardment on Iran Qeshm Island. US officials stated that this attack was launched on Qeshm Island. Before the midterm elections, US President Donald Trump bombed Iran Qeshm Island, according to information provided by American officials who confirmed that it was a drone attack. At the same time, a response to this attack was also initiated by Iranian security forces. Regarding the US attack, the Iranian news agency IRNA reported that several explosions were heard on Iran Qeshm Island. According to US media, Trump carried out the attack on Qeshm Island on November 2. This island is located on the Strait of Hormuz, while in fact, this is the latest in a series of limited strikes carried out by Washington in recent weeks. These attacks have been conducted on a small scale and deliberately kept secret so as not to signal any intention to resume a major military campaign against Iran.
US Central Command silence and Trump statements
Currently, the US Central Command has not made any comment regarding these attacks. A day earlier, US President Donald Trump was asked whether he would follow through on his threat to resume military strikes against Iran. In response to this question, he stated that a deal could be reached with Tehran, while regarding the major planning underway between Israel and the US, media reports quoting sources earlier indicated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking another attack on Iran following the US midterm elections. While the recreation of a full-scale war situation with Iran could help Netanyahu form an emergency government, it could also benefit US President Donald Trump in the midterm elections. The midterm elections in the US will be held today. According to Indian Standard Time, voting will begin at four-thirty in the evening. Trump faces the challenge of maintaining his majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives, and he bombed Iran right before the voting while continuously threatening major attacks against Iran.
Iran counterattack and claim of shooting down drones
Meanwhile, Iran Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or IRGC has made a major claim. They stated that Iran has shot down two US drones south of Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC Aerospace Force utilized an electronic warfare system against these two MQM-170 drones. With this addition, the total number of such drones captured by Iranian forces has now reached four. These fresh attacks are taking place at a time when indirect diplomatic talks are ongoing between Tehran and Washington. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said on Monday that both countries are sending messages to each other through intermediaries, while he also confirmed that Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi visited Doha to advance talks through Qatari mediation. The US and Israel started attacks against Iran on February 28 this year. In response, Tehran targeted Israeli and American assets in the region. Later in April, a ceasefire was reached between both sides, while the US and Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding Navigation of Freedom in the Hormuz Strait on June 18, but it couldn't be implemented due to disagreements regarding the security of this Hormuz Strait.
