Historical Visit to Kolkata

Prior to his arrival in New Delhi, Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Kolkata, a city that had not seen a visit from a US Secretary of State in nearly 14 years. The last such visit was conducted by the then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2012. During his time in Kolkata, Rubio visited the Mother House, which serves as the headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa. He also visited the Nirmala Shishu Bhavan. Rubio spent about 1 hour at the Mother House, where he interacted with the sisters and paid his respects. Following his visit to these charitable institutions, he also toured the historic Victoria Memorial before departing for his scheduled programs in New Delhi.
