Himachal Pradesh News: It is raining heavily in Himachal Pradesh since two days. In the last 24 hours, 44 people lost their lives in separate incidents related to landslides, cloudburst and rain. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rains in the state till August 16. The Shiv Bawdi temple located in Summerhill area of Shimla was hit by a landslide due to heavy rains. 15 to 20 people are buried under the debris. So far 9 bodies including 2 children have been retrieved. The search for the rest is on.

Trouble in rescue operation due to rain

Due to continuous rains and stones falling from the hill, there is a problem in the rescue operation in the temple. Four to five trees fell on top of the temple along with the debris. More damage has been done than this. SDRF, ITBP, Police and local people are engaged in the rescue. Debris is being removed from JCB machine.

Many people buried under the debris, calling for help

4 nephews had gone to make kheer in the temple: Kishore Thakur, who lives in Summerhill area, told that his 4 nephews are also trapped inside the temple. He said that some people are saying that calls have been received for the rescue of the people trapped inside the temple. It is not known whether this is fact or rumour. He said that every year Bhandara is held in the temple on 15th August and today is the last Monday of Sawan. That's why six-seven people including his nephew were present in the temple to make kheer.

Life saved from forgetting things at home: Naresh, who came to make kheer in the Shiva temple, told that when he came to the temple in the morning, everything was fine here. He forgot some things at home. So went back home from the temple. As soon as he reached the temple again from home, the landslide had started and he saw this scene of devastation in front of his eyes. He told that two carpenters, one Nepali and some people were present in the temple at the time of the accident. The local people took out the Nepali from the debris at the same time. But some people are trapped inside the temple.

CM visited the spot in Shimla-Solan

Himachal CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu also reached the spot in Shimla. He said the local administration is working to clear the debris. The trapped people are being evacuated. On the other hand, CM's media advisor Naresh Chauhan said – 10 to 15 people are feared to be trapped.

The Chief Minister also visited the landslide-affected Jadon village in Mamlig gram panchayat of district Solan. Here 7 members of the same family have died due to cloudburst. The Chief Minister got emotional seeing the tragedy and said that all possible help would be provided to the affected family by the state government.

Vertical cutting of mountains, devastation due to excessive rain

Atul Sharma, Geologist of Himachal Pradesh's Industries Department, told that vertical cutting of mountains is being done for roads. More destruction is happening than this. Due to this, more damage has been done along the Chandigarh-Shimla fourlane and Chandigarh-Manali fourlane highways.

This time the situation has worsened due to heavy rainfall. It has been raining continuously in Himachal since April. This has increased the moisture in the ground. In such a situation, damage is being done as soon as there is fresh rain.

Atul Sharma told that the mountains of Shimla and Solan have more clay soil, which swells when it rains heavily. This is causing havoc.

Chaos in Shimla's IGMC

Deadbodies as well as the injured are being brought to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) after two major accidents due to landslides in Shimla on Monday morning. Because of this, there was an atmosphere of chaos here since morning. The dead bodies of the eight people who were removed from Shiv Bawdi temple were brought here for postmortem. People who were safely evacuated from the temple were also brought to the hospital for treatment.

On the other hand, after the landslide in Fagli, the four injured who were pulled out from the debris were taken to the emergency ward of IGMC. Here the injured had to be taken to the new building of IGMC as the X-ray machine was stalled. Doctors and staff of IGMC are engaged in the treatment of the injured.

CM's announcement, cultural programs will not be held on Independence Day

CM Sukhwinder said that there will be no cultural programs on the Independence Day celebrations in the state. During this, tribute will be paid to the martyrs only by hoisting the flag.

114 people trapped in Tehri's tunnel were evacuated

Engineers and laborers were trapped due to water filling in a tunnel of Shivpuri in Tehri. Ajay Pratap Singh, manager of Shivpuri-based L&T company, had informed the police. About 4 feet of water was filled in the tunnel, due to which people were trapped inside 300 feet. The debris was removed from the Poklen machine and 114 people trapped inside were rescued.

It is raining heavily in Himachal for 55 hours. Apart from Shimla, the accident took place in Solan also due to landslide. 7 people of the same family died due to cloudburst in Jadaun village of Solan. Two houses were washed away in this late night incident, in which 3 people are still missing.

Heavy rains have created a flood-like situation in Balh Valley of Mandi district. Here the river Beas is in spate. According to officials, many tourists are stranded here. More than 30 houses were completely damaged and 180 houses were partially damaged during two days in the state.

Other accidents due to rain in Himachal

6 people died in landslide due to rain in Mandi. Here in many areas big vehicles, trucks and buses were buried under the debris. At Fagli in Shimla district, four people were killed and five were rescued after being hit by a landslide. Similarly, four people lost their lives in Sirmaur and one each in Hamirpur, Kangra and Chamba.
