Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja played his last international match in November 2021. Jadeja has been out of the team since playing the Kanpur Test match against New Zealand. Jadeja played his last T20 International match against Namibia during the 2021 T20 World Cup, after which he could not play the T20 series against New Zealand, West Indies.

Before the start of the series, Ravindra Jadeja said, "It feels good to be back in the Indian team. Looking forward to playing T20 and Test series. It feels great and excited that after two and a half months I am getting a chance to play for the Indian team. So I did my rehab well and also worked a lot on fitness at NCA.
