Ayodhya Ram Mandir Donation Theft: FIR Filed Against 8 People After SIT Report

A major legal action has been initiated in the Ram Mandir donation theft case. Following an SIT investigation, an FIR has been registered against eight individuals, including six cashiers, based on a complaint by Trust member Krishna Mohan. The VHP has demanded a fast-track trial.

The investigation into the high-profile donation theft case at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya has reached a significant milestone with the first major legal action being taken, while following the submission of a detailed report by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), an FIR has been registered against eight individuals. This development comes after a formal complaint was lodged by Krishna Mohan, a prominent member of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The case has been registered at the Ayodhya police station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), marking a decisive step in the probe that has garnered national attention.

Details of the FIR and the Accused

The FIR registered in this case includes several serious charges. Among the eight people named in the complaint, six are identified as cashiers. It's noteworthy that the FIR doesn't mention high-profile names such as Champat Rai or Anil Mishra, which had been a subject of much speculation, while according to sources, the action was initiated after the SIT reviewed evidence, including CCTV footage that allegedly showed individuals committing the theft and others providing assistance in the act. The police are now focusing on the roles played by these eight individuals in the misappropriation of temple funds.

Legal Sections and Potential Penalties

The case has been filed under several stringent sections of the BNS, reflecting the gravity of the offense. Section 316(5) pertains to a serious case of Criminal Breach of Trust, typically involving the embezzlement or misuse of property or money entrusted to a person, such as a bank employee, agent, or trader. This section carries a penalty of life imprisonment or up to 10 years in jail along with a fine. Section 317(4) deals with the habitual purchase, possession, or dealing in stolen property while knowing it to be stolen, which also carries a penalty of life imprisonment or up to 10 years in jail and a fine. Section 317(5) involves assisting in concealing, selling, disposing of, or destroying stolen property, punishable by up to 3 years in prison, a fine, or both.

On top of that, Section 61 has been applied for Criminal Conspiracy, which involves an agreement between two or more people to commit an illegal act or a crime. Section 3(5) addresses crimes committed by several persons with a common intention, ensuring that if a crime is committed by a group, the responsibility of all members can be established. On top of that, Section 306 has been mentioned in the initial filing. These sections combined indicate a comprehensive legal approach to tackling the alleged conspiracy and theft within the temple's financial operations.

VHP's Aggressive Stance and Demands

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has expressed strong indignation over the incident. A high-level meeting of the VHP was held in Ayodhya, attended by five senior members of the organization, while sources indicate that the meeting involved intense deliberations on future strategies and major decisions regarding the case. Alok Kumar, the International President of the VHP, spoke to TV9 and emphasized that those responsible for the theft must be sent to jail. The VHP has put forward four major demands to ensure justice and transparency in the matter.

The first demand is the immediate registration of FIRs to initiate formal legal proceedings. The second demand calls for a swift investigation into all matters related to the temple to bring the truth to light, while the third demand is that cases related to the donation theft be heard in a Fast Track Court to ensure a speedy trial. Finally, the VHP has demanded the strictest possible punishment for those found guilty. The organization remains firm in its stance that any form of corruption or theft related to the sacred temple won't be tolerated, and they're closely monitoring the police's next steps.
