The Supreme Court on Wednesday, 17 July, permitted Karnataka Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar to decide on the resignations of 15 rebel MLAs within such time-frame as deemed appropriate by him. Once the decision is taken, it should be placed before the court.

The discretion of the Karnataka Assembly Speaker in deciding on the resignations should not be fettered by direction or observations of court, SC said.

The apex court also said that the 15 rebel MLAs should not be compelled to take part in the proceedings of the Karnataka Assembly.
