Gujarat Cabinet Oath Taking Ceremony: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Bhupendra Patel took oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat today (December 12) in Gandhinagar in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is Patel's second consecutive term as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Governor Acharya Devvrat administered the oath of office to Patel as the 18th Chief Minister of the state at a ceremony held at the helipad ground near the new secretariat. Along with the CM, 16 other ministers also took oath, out of which eight are of cabinet rank. These include 11 former ministers.

The BJP won a record 156 out of 182 seats in the recently concluded Gujarat assembly elections. This is BJP's seventh consecutive victory in Gujarat assembly elections. Congress has won 17 seats and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has won five seats. Patel (60) had resigned on Friday along with his entire cabinet to pave the way for the formation of a new government in the state. He was elected the leader of the BJP Legislature Party on Saturday, after which he met the Governor and staked claim to form the next government.

Patel defeated his rival in Ghatlodia seat by a margin of 1.92 lakh votes. Patel got the command of the state after the resignation of Vijay Rupani in September last year.

MLAs Parsottambhai Odhavjibhai Solanki, Bachubhai Khabad, Mukesh Patel, Prafulla Pansheriya, Bhikhusinh Parmar and Kunvarji Halpati took oath as Ministers of State.

Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs Harsh Shanghvi and Jagdish Vishwakarma took oath as Ministers of State (Independent Charge).

Kunvarji Bavaliya, Mulubhai Bera, Kuber Dindor, Bhanuben Bawaria also took oath as cabinet members.

BJP MLAs Kanu Bhai Desai, Hrishikesh Patel, Raghavji Patel and Balwant Singh Rajput took oath as cabinet members.

Veterans attended the swearing-in ceremony

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by top BJP leaders as well as Union ministers and chief ministers of states where the party is in power. These included Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma, Karnataka Chief Minister SR Bommai, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala.
