Corona Vaccine | With Serum Institute of India planning to start testing Kovavax on children in July, the prospect of having four vaccines ready for children is a delight for parents. Bharat Biotech has two vaccines that are being tested on children while the trial for the Zydus Cadila vaccine involved children from the beginning. So if everything goes according to the vaccine manufacturers' plan, India will have four vaccines for children.

Covaxin: Bharat Biotech's Covaxin is also included in an Indian vaccine developed by Hyderabad-based vaccine maker and Indian Council of Medical Research. Currently, the vaccine is being administered to adults in India. It is about 78 percent effective. Now the vaccine is in the trial phase on children aged 2 to 18 years.

Bharat Biotech's Nasal Vaccine (BBV154): Bharat Biotech's One-Shot Nasal Vaccine, which is touted to be a game-changer, is already under trial. It is a nasal vaccine, which makes it very convenient for vaccinating children. Children were involved in this test.

Zydus Cadila's ZyCov-D: Zydus Cadila's ZyCov-D is another vaccine that is being tested on children aged 12 to 18 years apart from adults. This vaccine will soon apply for a license and when it is approved, children can be vaccinated.

Novavax/Kovavax: Novavax or Kovavax will be the fourth vaccine to start clinical trials for children in India. The vaccine has been developed by Novavax which has a tie-up with Serum Institute of India, Pune. The overall efficacy of the vaccine is 90.4 percent.

Are children at greater risk?

No, despite assumptions and speculations that a possible third wave of the pandemic will affect children in India, there is no scientific evidence about it. Experts have reiterated this. Children are not at high risk of contracting the virus. The danger is no less.
