Delhi Ordinance Bill: President Draupadi Murmu has approved the Delhi Service Bill today. With his signature, it became law from today. This law will replace the ordinance under which the central government wrested control of Delhi's bureaucracy from the Aam Aadmi Party-led government. The bills were passed in the parliament amid huge uproar. The Aam Aadmi Party was supported by all the opposition parties including the Congress, yet the bill got good support in the Rajya Sabha.

The President has given the shape of law today by approving four bills. These also include the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill. Apart from these, the Registration of Birth and Death (Amendment) Bill and the Jan Vishwas (Amendments of Provision) Bill have also been approved by President Murmu today. He has signed two bills. When the Delhi Service Bill was put on the table for voting, the opposition leaders walked out of the house.

The Center issued the Delhi ordinance on May 19

Overturning the decision of the Supreme Court, the Central Government issued an ordinance on May 19 to control the services in the capital Delhi. Home Minister Amit Shah strongly defended this proposed law of the Center in the Parliament. In Parliament, he said that this ordinance is under the order of the Supreme Court, in which it has been said that the Parliament has the right to make laws related to the National Capital Territory of Delhi. There are provisions in the Constitution that allow the Center to make laws for Delhi.

Delhi Service Bill got good support in Rajya Sabha

Before the Delhi Service Bill was passed, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said in one of his tweets that it is an attempt to make the people of Delhi 'slaves'. Despite all the efforts of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Rajya Sabha, 130 votes were cast in support of the bill, while the opposition alliance could muster only 102 votes. The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Bill was passed by voice vote amid sloganeering by opposition members over the Manipur issue. Through this bill, the opposition alleges that the government is trying to make the country a surveillance state.
