A major controversy has erupted at the world-famous Maa Baglamukhi Temple in Nalkheda, Agar-Malwa district of Madhya Pradesh, regarding alleged financial irregularities in donations and offerings. The temple, which attracts millions of devotees from across the country, is now under scrutiny following serious allegations that donations were being diverted into private bank accounts instead of the official temple management funds. In response to these reports, the District Collector has taken a firm stand and constituted a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Formation of the Inquiry Committee
Collector Preeti Yadav issued an official order after receiving complaints about a non-government committee operating within the temple premises. This private group is accused of collecting donations in the form of cash, gold, and silver, separate from the official Government Management Committee. The most alarming part of the allegation is the use of private bank accounts to receive these offerings, which bypasses the official accounting system of the temple.
S. Solanki, the Chief Executive Officer of the Zila Panchayat, as the chairperson of the three-member committee. The other members include District Treasury Officer Manish Solanki and Minni Agrawal, the Chief Municipal Officer of the Nalkheda Municipal Council. This high-level team has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive audit of the temple's financial activities.
Scope of the Investigation
The inquiry team is mandated to inspect the temple premises and scrutinize the entire system of receiving donations and offerings. Their investigation will involve a detailed review of receipt books, bank account statements, and other financial documents, while the committee will also investigate whether any officials, employees, members of the temple management, or other associated individuals played a suspicious role in these irregularities. The Collector has given the team a strict deadline of 7 days to collect all evidence and submit a detailed report along with their opinions and recommendations.
Strict Action Promised by Culture Minister
The issue has also drawn the attention of the state government. Culture Minister Dharmendra Lodhi expressed strong disapproval of the situation, stating that a non-governmental organization was allegedly involved in illegal recovery outside the Maa Baglamukhi Temple. He clarified that this activity has no connection with the official government institutions managing the temple. The minister referred to those involved in such illegal activities as "Kalnemi," a term used for deceptive characters, and promised the harshest possible action against them.
Also, Minister Lodhi announced significant policy changes to prevent such incidents in the future. He stated that the government has directed a mandatory audit of all temples every 3 months. Also, instructions have been issued to implement digital payment facilities in all temples as soon as possible. This move is intended to ensure transparency and effectively curb any illegal collection of funds from devotees.
