A somber atmosphere has gripped South Mumbai following a tragic accident during the arrival procession of the 'Bhuleshwarcha Raja' Ganesh idol, while on Saturday night, what was supposed to be a joyous celebration turned into a disaster when the massive 22-foot idol collapsed, leading to the death of two individuals and causing injuries to five others, including two young children. Significance of Ganeshotsav in Maharashtra
Ganeshotsav is the most widely celebrated festival in Mumbai and across Maharashtra, spanning 10 days of intense devotion and public celebration. During this period, idols of the elephant-headed Hindu deity, Lord Ganpati, are installed in both private homes and large public pandals. For over a decade, the tradition of grand arrival processions has grown, where devotees bring the idols to their respective pandals accompanied by music, dance, and massive crowds. The 'Bhuleshwarcha Raja' is part of this long-standing tradition, making this year's accident a particularly painful moment for the local community and the organizers of the festival.
