A somber atmosphere has gripped South Mumbai following a tragic accident during the arrival procession of the 'Bhuleshwarcha Raja' Ganesh idol, while on Saturday night, what was supposed to be a joyous celebration turned into a disaster when the massive 22-foot idol collapsed, leading to the death of two individuals and causing injuries to five others, including two young children. The incident occurred amidst a large gathering of devotees who had assembled to welcome the deity ahead of the upcoming Ganeshotsav festival.

According to civic officials, the mishap took place at approximately 10 PM on Saturday night. The location of the accident was identified as Balram Merchant Road, near the Kabutarkhana at Jai Ambe Chowk in the Bhuleshwar area. This locality is known for its narrow lanes and dense population, which were packed with people at the time of the procession. The 'Bhuleshwarcha Raja' is a significant attraction in the area, and its arrival is traditionally marked with great pomp and show, while preliminary reports suggest that a technical failure in the bolts securing the idol caused the 22-foot structure to lose its balance and fall onto the crowd below.

Casualties and Emergency Response

The impact of the falling idol resulted in immediate casualties, while civic authorities confirmed that two men lost their lives in the accident. The deceased have been identified as 33-year-old Sanket Nevshe and 30-year-old Brijesh Hemant Joshi. Initially, one person was brought to the GT Hospital in a deceased state, while others were rushed for emergency medical care. The five injured individuals are currently receiving treatment and have been identified as 38-year-old Vaibhav Ghenand, 25-year-old Pawan Chaurasia, 5-year-old Lavanya Ganer, 7-year-old Divya Ganer, and 26-year-old Kunal Kashid. Medical officials have stated that the condition of all five injured persons is currently stable.
