Delhi / Sonia Gandhi mourns the martyrdom of 22 soldiers in Naxalite attack

The interim president of the Congress, Sonia Gandhi, expressed deep grief over the martyrdom of 22 soldiers in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district and expressed their desire to return soon. He issued a statement saying that the whole nation salutes the martyrdom of its jawans. He expressed condolences to his family while paying tribute to the 22 paramilitary personnel killed in the Naxalite attack in Bijapur region. He said that the country will always be indebted to the martyrdom of its brave soldiers.

It has been reported that 22 soldiers were martyred in an encounter on the border of Naxal-affected Bijapur and Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. The bodies of 17 soldiers have been recovered by the security forces. Senior police officials of the state said on Sunday that security forces have recovered the bodies of 17 jawans missing from the scene today.

He said that there was an encounter between security forces and Naxalites near Jonaguda village under Jagargunda police station area in Sukma district on Saturday, in which five soldiers were reported to be martyred and 30 others were injured.

Police officials said that the bodies of two of the slain soldiers were recovered by the security forces and the bodies of three other soldiers could not be brought to the camp. At the same time, 18 other soldiers were reported missing during this incident.

He said that the security forces were sent today in search of the missing soldiers. On Saturday, the security forces have recovered the bodies of three martyred soldiers and the bodies of 17 other jawans (a total of 20 jawans).

He said that a jawan is being searched, so far the bodies of 22 soldiers killed in the incident have been recovered.
