Alwar: Villagers Lock Dagdaga School Gate Over Teacher Shortage, Department Deploys Two

Residents of Dagdaga in Alwar's Reni block locked the Government Higher Secondary School gate on Saturday due to a severe shortage of teachers. Following a 1.5-hour protest, CBEO Rajendra Meena intervened and appointed two teachers from a nearby school to resume classes.

In a significant display of public dissatisfaction regarding the state of government educational institutions, residents of Dagdaga village in the Reni block of Alwar district took the drastic step of locking the main gate of the local school. The incident occurred on Saturday morning at the Government Higher Secondary School, Dagdaga, where villagers gathered in large numbers to protest against the persistent shortage of teaching staff. This move highlights the growing frustration among local communities over the educational facilities provided to their children, leading to a temporary halt in school activities and exposing the gaps in the local education system.

Immediate Intervention by Education Department

Upon receiving information about the lockout, the education department swung into action to prevent further disruption, while reni Chief Block Education Officer (CBEO) Rajendra Meena was informed that local residents had locked the school gate due to the lack of teachers. Recognizing the gravity of the situation and the impact on students' education, CBEO Meena personally reached the spot to engage with the protesting villagers, while after a period of negotiation and providing firm assurances that the staffing issues would be addressed, the villagers agreed to open the gate. To provide an immediate solution, the department has temporarily deployed two teachers from a nearby school to Dagdaga, ensuring that classes could resume without further delay.

Reasons Behind the Public Outcry

According to CBEO Rajendra Meena, the school has been facing a shortage of Lecturers and Second Grade teachers for some time. The local residents had previously met with officials to raise this concern and were given assurances that weren't met to their satisfaction, while the primary grievance of the villagers is the lack of specialized teachers for core subjects like Science and Mathematics. They alleged that the absence of these subject-specific teachers was severely hindering the academic progress of the students. While the villagers acknowledged that other facilities at the school are satisfactory, they felt compelled to take this extreme step because the lack of teachers for main subjects was non-negotiable.

Impact of the Protest and Viral Footage

5 hours, during which a large crowd of students and villagers remained gathered outside the school gates. Due to the lockout, even the school teachers were forced to wait outside the premises. The entire episode was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media platforms, while the footage shows the locked school gate with students and teachers standing outside, while several villagers are seen expressing their anger. The situation was only resolved after the education department's intervention and the immediate appointment of two teachers, which allowed the school to function normally again.
