A catastrophic landslide struck the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing on Friday, leading to a significant loss of life and widespread destruction of property, while according to official reports, the disaster has claimed the lives of at least 8 individuals, while 34 others remain missing under the massive piles of debris. The landslide occurred in Pengshui County, where a sudden collapse of rocks and soil from a nearby hillside buried more than 10 residential buildings, trapping several residents inside their homes.

The incident took place at approximately 9:08 AM local time. The sheer force of the landslide was so immense that many residents were unable to escape in time. State broadcaster CCTV reported that the landslide caused severe damage to infrastructure, including a 5 story building and a 15 story building that were heavily impacted.
