Yogi Cabinet Expansion: Bhupendra Chaudhary and Manoj Pandey Among 6 to Join Government

CM Yogi Adityanath is set to expand his cabinet on Sunday afternoon. Six MLAs, including Bhupendra Chaudhary and Manoj Pandey, will take oath at Jan Bhawan. The expansion aims to balance caste and regional equations ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

0 government is scheduled to take place this Sunday. Six MLAs are expected to be sworn in as ministers during a ceremony at Jan Bhawan in the afternoon. In preparation for this move, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met with Governor Anandiben Patel at 6:30 PM on Saturday. Following this meeting, arrangements at Jan Bhawan have been intensified. This expansion, occurring ahead of next year's assembly elections, is strategically designed to address various caste and regional equations within the state.

New Inductions and Ministerial Portfolios

According to reports, six MLAs are likely to be inducted into the cabinet. This includes two Cabinet Ministers and four Ministers of State. Former BJP State President Bhupendra Chaudhary and Manoj Pandey, the MLA from Unchahar who defected from the Samajwadi Party, are expected to be sworn in as Cabinet Ministers. On top of that, Surendra Singh Diler (MLA from Khair, Aligarh), Krishna Paswan (MLA from Khaga, Fatehpur), and Kailash Rajput (MLA from Tirwa, Kannauj) are slated to take oath as Ministers of State. Hansraj Vishwakarma from Varanasi is also expected to join the council of ministers.

Strategic Focus on Dalits and OBCs

The cabinet expansion will place a significant emphasis on Dalit and Backward Class (OBC) representation. Currently, there are 54 ministers in the Yogi government; after this expansion, the total count is expected to reach 60. The reshuffle aims to cover specific regions that are crucial for the party's electoral strategy, while there is also a possibility of including MLAs who have expressed dissatisfaction with Akhilesh Yadav's leadership. While there were initial rumors regarding the removal of some existing ministers, current reports suggest that no one will be dropped from the cabinet.

Potential Promotions and Portfolio Reallocation

Sources indicate that the roles of several existing ministers might be elevated, while social Welfare Minister Asim Arun, Cooperative Minister JPS Rathore, Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh, and Minister of State for Sugarcane Development Sanjay Singh Gangwar are likely to see an increase in their stature. Conversely, some ministers might face a reduction in their portfolios. All concerned ministers and MLAs have been instructed to reach Lucknow by 2 PM on Sunday to attend the proceedings.

0 government took place on March 5, 2024, just before the Lok Sabha elections. During that expansion, SBSP National President Om Prakash Rajbhar, along with Dara Singh Chauhan, Sunil Sharma, and Anil Kumar, were sworn in as Cabinet Ministers. This upcoming expansion marks the second major reshuffle aimed at strengthening the party's position before the assembly elections.
