The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a comprehensive weather update indicating that conditions are becoming increasingly favorable for the further advancement of the monsoon across the Indian subcontinent. According to the latest meteorological data, the monsoon is expected to make significant progress into several regions, including parts of Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha in the coming days. This advancement marks a crucial phase in the seasonal weather pattern, bringing much-needed relief and moisture to these eastern and central states.
Impact of Western Disturbance on Northwest India
In Northwest India, the weather patterns are currently being influenced by a Western Disturbance, while this atmospheric phenomenon is expected to trigger rainfall across the region until June 13. The IMD has specifically highlighted that the intensity of this weather system will be most prominent on June 11 and June 12. During these two days, residents should prepare for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, high-speed winds, and instances of hailstorms. This shift in weather is expected to provide a temporary respite from the intense heat that has been prevailing in the northern plains.
Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Northeast and South India
The weather outlook for the Northeastern states and West Bengal remains wet, with the IMD predicting persistent rainfall over the next five to seven days, while in some isolated locations within these regions, the rainfall intensity could range from 7 to 20 centimeters. Similarly, the Southern states of Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are also under a heavy rainfall forecast. The monsoon's activity in these areas continues to be solid, ensuring a steady supply of precipitation as the season progresses.
Review of the Last 24 Hours
Reflecting on the weather activity over the past 24 hours, significant rainfall has already been recorded. In the Himalayan regions, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu, one or two places witnessed heavy downpours ranging between 12 and 20 centimeters. Other areas that experienced heavy rainfall include South Konkan, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Kerala, Lakshadweep, and Telangana. Also, hailstorms were reported in isolated parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Eastern Madhya Pradesh. Many parts of the country also experienced the effects of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds during this period.
Monsoon Trajectory and Temperature Trends
The monsoon is projected to move further into Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh over the next three to four days. It's also expected to cover the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu during this window. Simultaneously, the monsoon is likely to knock on the doors of Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha. A low-pressure area created by the Western Disturbance is currently situated over the central part of the country, while consequently, temperatures in Northwest India will remain stable for the next 24 hours. However, between June 11 and June 13, the mercury is expected to drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, followed by a subsequent rise of 2 to 4 degrees. In Central India, temperatures won't see much change until June 12, after which a drop of 2 to 3 degrees is anticipated. Eastern India will see stable temperatures for two days, followed by a decrease of 2 to 4 degrees between June 12 and June 14.
Alerts and Heatwave Warnings
The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for several regions, including Eastern Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. These areas are expected to face thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. Heavy rain is specifically predicted for Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Telangana, Karnataka, South Konkan, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep. In Karnataka, Goa, and Kerala, winds could reach speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. Despite the rain elsewhere, heatwave conditions will persist in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. On top of that, an Orange Alert for hail has been issued for Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh may also witness dust storms in isolated pockets.
